Alice wasn't even remotely sure of where she was at this time. She found a peculiar tree (peculiar even for Wonderland's standards) in Wonderland, with a door that was in the shape and design of a particularly eerie pumpkin, complete with a menacing face. Poor Dinah was left behind; Alice turned the knob, opened the door, and was quickly sucked into the black, void. She initially tumbled in a spiral, but thanks to the parachute-like function of her skirt, she glided down safely, until her feet landed on ground. After a short walk into moonlight, she found herself in a very spooky graveyard.
Alice was never fond of cemeteries, and this scary place was no exception. The night was filled with a chilly air. She could hear various creatures in the distance, and an unnatural-looking hill that spiraled could be seen from a distance. She had to watch her footing to avoid stepping on a pumpkin. There were many.
"Oh, dear," she said to herself, fearfully. She clasped her hands together and brought them up to her chest as she walked. Her blue eyes looked every which way, trying to find anything of or pertaining to normal life."I do wish I hadn't opened that door." He bit her lip, continuing to walk and look.
A shrill, frightening cackle filled the air. It was so sudden and eruptive that it terrified poor Alice instantaneously. The laughter was followed by the galloping of violent hooves. Alice turned around and saw a horseman ride swift after her. The purely black horse was nearly as terrifying as the rider, and as the rider got closer--
Alice's eyes widened even more. She was already scared, but the closer the horseman was, the more the little girl realized that he did not have a head! Even worse, this man evidently wanted to kill her, because the horseman carried with him a long, sharp blade!
Alice chose not to stay and wait for confirmation, which was a wise choice. She turned and fled, ducking behind a stone pillar just before the horseman could strike her. When the horseman rode past, Alice left her cover and ran when the attacker turned around.
"Somebody!" she screamed as loudly as she could, still running. "Help me! Please!" She was actually a quick runner, but she knew she couldn't outrun a horse at full-speed.
Indeed, the headless horseman intended to behead Alice. He missed the girl, but he didn't give up; he circled and gave chase after the girl. He readied his blade, ready to strike at an opportune time. At this point, Alice desperately needed assistance, if she was expected to survive.
*Suddenly, and almost in a blur of motion, something, or someone long and spindly launched from the bushes, pushing Alice away from the increasingly dangerous path of the headless horseman. With her it tumbled, and stopped near the foot of the spiral hill, and almost acrobatically, flipped to stand up. A kindly male voice was heard, speaking to her.*

Alice shrieked when she was swept away unexpectedly. It was all so sudden, and the poor girl only increasingly became dazed. She tumbled to the ground but stood up as soon as she was stationary. Her long hair came over her head and shielded her eyes, so hastily pulled her yellow tresses from her face.
"Yes," she answered with eternal gratitude. "Oh, thank you! Thank you--"
As she thanked whoever the gentleman was, she looked up to see whom to thank. Alas, she was very spooked to see three highly unsettling facts about this man: he was as tall as a lamppost, his suit was eerie, and, above all else, he was a skeleton.
She gasped when her eyes stopped at the skull, and she covered her mouth. By instinct she stepped back. Her eyes were wide with shock.
"Oh, no!" she exclaimed in fright, after uncovering her mouth. She took a few quick steps backward, as if to avoid any direct contact with the skeleton. "Please don't kill me!"
The shrill, piercing neigh of a horse erupted at that moment. It was obviously the horse of the headless murderer. The horse galloped until it came into view. The horseman stopped his mount, so it could face (as best as it could) the skeleton and mortal girl. Although the horseman was fixated on the girl not more than a minute ago, his attention actually shifted to the intrusive skeleton.
The horse's blood-red eyes also stared into the Pumpkin King. A truly horrifying visage. Unfortunately for the horseman and his mount, they had no idea who they were about to deal with.
They continued to stare for a tension-filled moment. Soon, someone had to make the first move...

Forgive me, but I mean no--
*Jack was just about to reassure her he had no ill intent, when the Horseman's approach distracted him from his speech. His eyeless sockets narrowed in coldness at the visage.*
So, this fiend is the reason the entire village is so terrified to go out at night!
*He pulled himself to his full height, staring down the spirit, nearly equally intimidating looking, quite unafraid and undaunted of the headless spectre's appearance. Besides, he was already dead himself--what more did he have to lose?*
Be warned, Horseman...you have entered these lands with malevolent intent and with the intent to harm others. As the Pumpkin King, I command you to take your horse and leave Halloweentown!

The headless horseman remained still for moments longer, increasing the tension further. Alas, he made his decision, and he expressed it loud and clear, even without a voice. With a swoop, he brought up his deadly blade, and his mount stood on its hind legs to kick the air wildly with his front legs. The horse returned his fours to the earth and broke into a dangerous charge, with the horseman aiming for Jack's head.

*A less agile person might've "lost their head" right then and there, but Jack, being less than mortal and one of the most nible creatures in Halloweentown, dodged the horseman's attempt to slice him to bone fragments with a swift, fluid flip out of the way, swinging up a nearby skeletal-like tree.
When the horseman's horse got close enough, Jack sprung onto the backside of the equine, light as a feather, keeping his balance. He made an attempt to grab the Horseman's source of terror--the very blade the ghoul had intended to do harm with.*

Jack was successful; the horseman's sword was easily snatched by the Pumpkin King. The evil, murderous spirit was probably baffled by the surprising action; he turned, as if to 'look' at his opponent.
Meanwhile, the horse was also startled by Jack's presence, and stopped and kicked its front legs madly into the air, neighing with a hellish, piercing wail. The horseman fell back when the horse panicked, landing hard onto the ground. His cape had covered most of his body due to the impact.

*Avoiding the Horseman's own body, he backflipped off right before the hessian could reach him, landing on his feet. The Pumpkin King held the sword out at him, scowling hard, then, planting the sword, point end into the ground, leaning on the hilt as if it were a cane, in a dapper manner. His angered expression did not change, however.*
If I haven't made my self clear before...again, I will repeat myself! If you wish remain here to cause harm to the innocent, you will leave these lands *IMMEDIATELY*...Now away with you!

The headless horseman slowly got back up to his feat and scowled at Jack, even though he had no head. He forcibly took his sword back, climbed onto his now calm horse, and rode off. He would lose this night, but he would be back, some other time...
Once you cross that bridge, my friends, the ghost is through--his power ends.

Alice hid behind a large gravestone, and watched from behind her makeshift cover. She soon realized that the skeleton, as eerie as he appeared, was a good man and on her side, and therefore felt guilty for how she treated him just a moment ago. She watched and was greatly impressed by the skeleton's lithe and athletic movement and actions, and all with finesse. She smiled happily when the Headless Horseman was defeated, and was relieved to watch him flee.
Now that she was alone with the skeleton, she left the gravestone and approached her new friend. "You saved my life, mister!" she exclaimed merrily. She locked her hands together and smiled up to him warmly. "Oh, how could I ever thank you enough?"

*The skeleton reeled a bit as the horseman took his sword back forcibly. Straightening his suit, he then watched the apparition ride off, scowling a bit. Hopefully, the spirit wouldn't be back, but he had somewhat a feeling deep down that the horseman WOULD be. That matter taken care of, he looks back down to Alice, his expression finally softening, smiling a bit at the young girl, bowing kindly.*
Oh, it's no trouble, really...I'm terribly sorry for frightening you earlier. That spirit has been troubling the townsfolk for some time now. It's one thing to scare someone out of the fun of Halloween, but he tried to harm as well as frighten...and he had everyone much too afraid to so much as leave their homes at night.
*Blinking, the skeleton realized something.*
Oh! Where are my manners. I am Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King. And you are...?
