Ice Pirate heard a sound like the rushing of the wind through ailerons on a summer's day. Turning toward it, he heard a loud crack and saw a flock of small tweeting birds. How strange that they should make such a sound, he thought, as the floor flew up to meet his face.
It was the last thought the pirate had for a few moments, as he lay, face down, amid the rubble of the office floor while the battle continued to rage around him.
"Cap'n!" shouted several voices, almost in unison. One of them seemed to come from the empty air, as the invisible pirate revealed himself even further.
Willoughby turned to rescue his fallen leader, though his progress was labored and plodding as he worked to detatch his feet from the floor at each step.
Julius stared stupidly for a few seconds before shouting, "Hey! You can't do that to the cap'n!" Lumbering forward, he telegraphed a roundhouse punch at She-Wolf.

Justice turned in time to see the flying kick that downed the Ice Pirate. "Bang on! Nice kick, that," he crowed with admiration.
And now there were but three of the felons remaining. And one of those had rather injudiciously revealed his whereabouts.
Swiftly, before the invisible thug could disappear again, the Midnight Mouse seized a nearby box, tore it open, and flung the contents in the direction of that disembodied voice.
As the contents of the mayor's desk had been scattered about the room earlier, Basil had been looking round for a fountain pen or bottle of ink with which to mark his invisible foe. Failing to find either, strange as that seemed, he did spot a box of smallish paper circles, gummed on one side.
As the water he had poured out was still puddled in the middle of the room, it was but the work of a moment to moisten these paper rings before scattering them into the air, where they stuck neatly all over the vague outline of an air pirate.
Now he was visible, more or less, they ought to make short work of him.

Julius was hopelessly outmatched as a fighter. Sure, he was strong, but painfully slow in both mind and body. And his inability to connect with anything only served as a source of frustration.
"All right, that's it!" He was through wasting his time in a futile brawl. Standing still in the middle of the room, the air pirate clenched his fists and went stiff, breathing hard and staring into space.
"Julius is gonna blow!" shouted a voice from somewhere in the room. Suddenly, Ice Pirate jerked to his feet. Although he was now standing upright, his lanky form teetered as if he might drop again any moment. His eyes had a glazed look, and a dopey grin was plastered on his face.
"Help me with the cap'n!" Moving to obey, the goo-covered pirate emerged from the green glop in order to travel faster, leaving a mass of the slop on the floor behind him. He grabbed one of Karnage's arms, escorting his wolfish leader back toward the hole through which they'd originally entered.
