Story Mickey was glad to be back and he was quite happy with the thought that he could sleep in his old bed again. He had missed his friends dearly and villains were always a thought in the back of his head. He had gone away because of one of them, but with him out of the kingdom the others would have a better chance of taking control- not that he didn't trust his friend's could handle them. He set his troubling thoughts aside and sank down into a comfortable armchair. Mickey yawned and closed his eyes. They didn't stay shut for long though! He was so excited to be back! The sun was shining, birds were chirping. He knew he should rest, but he just couldn't. He heard Pluto lapping up water in the kitchen and decided to get up and get himself a drink too. Then there was a knock on Mickey's front door, but there appeared to be no one waiting outside... Pluto barked at the knock and raced to the door, scratching at it. "Pluto!" Mickey cried, when he went back out into the living room. "Don't do that, you'll leave marks!" Pluto's tail went between his legs and he hopped down. Mickey went and opened the door, peering around. "There's nobody out here. Huh. I was sure I heard the door, didn't you pal?" Pluto nodded his head and Mickey began to shut the door. "Well!" a familiar voice inside of the house said. "The Mouse has returned. What a surprise."
Maleficent stood directly behind Mickey and Pluto, holding her sceptre with her left hand. Diablo flew in through the door before Mickey could close it all the way, and perched himself on the knob of Maleficent's sceptre. Pluto barked and then growled at Maleficent, teeth bared, his shoulders hunching. Mickey had stumbled back when Diablo flew in. "Maleficent!" he cried. "It is I," Maleficent replied. She feigned self-pity. "I worried you would forget about me during your absence."
Diablo narrowed his gaze at Pluto. Pluto barked madly at Diablo. "Easy Pluto," Mickey said and though the canine stopped barking, he did not shift his stance, remaining ready to attack if need be. "Heh, heh, you're a bit difficult to forget Maleficent," Mickey said. Maleficent smiled softly and stepped to examine a picture of Mickey and some of his Fantasmic Kingdom friends. "Your... friends worried about you," she said. "Your sudden departure struck a mighty blow to some of them." She leered to Mickey. "One could say you were... foolish."
Diablo grinned after hearing the insult. "Well that's little more than you know," Mickey said, his arms crossed. "Now is there something, I can help you with, Maleficent?" Pluto growled at Diablo. Maleficent’s coy smile faded. “I merely bring a message, Mouse.” Diablo glared at Pluto. Maleficent stepped closer to Mickey, looking down at him with coldness. “It makes no difference that you have returned; the Kingdom will soon be usurped once more. Stay out of our affairs.” A sly look came over Mickey. "Ha! Well now we know you're up to something! Take a rest Maleficent and go live peacefully somewhere. You're always stopped." Little flames emitted from Maleficent's shoulders, and her eyes glowed for a brief moment in annoyance. "Your confidence is noteworthy, but feeble. Now, I'll be on my way." She turned, but in so doing flapped some of her dress on Mickey. The material slid down Mickey's ear and on to Pluto's head, which caused the canine to growl in warning again. Mickey opened the door for Maleficent and folded his arms across his chest. He did not look pleased at all. She stepped out of the house and began to leave Mickey's property. However, she stopped one last time and slightly turned her head to address Mickey. “Do not underestimate me, Mouse.” She continued on. Mickey closed the door. "Ha! Maybe she shouldn't underestimate me, huh, Pluto?" Pluto sniffed and nodded his head, brows furrowed. He raced to the window to see if Maleficent was still there.

Not long after Maleficent had left, Wendy came to the door of Mickey Mouse's house. She rang the bell and then stood waiting, hands clasped behind her back.
Malfeicent had vanished (literally) without a trace shortly after she walked off of Mickey's property, leaving Diablo flying high, onward to the Forbidden Mountain.
Pluto lay down on the mat at the front of the door, guarding it, while Mickey paced back and forth.
"Now who does she think she is?" he complained. But he had expected that his rivals would be up to their old tricks upon hearing he had returned. When Jadis was in control, the rest of the old villains could not cause as much trouble as they used to. However Mickey always came out triumphant- why even in his dreams he was successful. Still, a mouse deserved a break every once in a while, didn't he?
Pluto jumped to his feet when he heard the door bell, tail sticking straight out behind him as he got into a guard stance and began to bark.
"Oooo, if Maleficent is back..." Mickey began. But to his surprise, he found Wendy at the door instead.
"Wendy!" Mickey exclaimed, for he was familiar with all the Disney characters. "What are you doing here?"
Mickey's mood had completely changed. He had gone from angry and confused, to a completely happy mouse.
Pluto barked a happy bark and sniffed at the hem of Wendy's dress, picking up the scent of Nanna.
Wendy laughed and pat Pluto on the head.
"Down, boy," she said sweetly. "Hello, Mr. Mouse," she said. "I was wondering if you could help me."
Pluto moved away from Wendy and sat next to Mickey.
"Sure!" Mickey said with a cheerful laugh. Boy, it felt good to be helping some friends again. "And you can call me Mickey, Wendy!" he added. He and Pluto both stepped aside to make way for her.
"Thank you, Mickey," she said and pet Plut on the head as she stepped across the threshold. Wendy looked about. "Why, what a wonderful home you have! It looks very cozy. You must have missed it terribly when you were away."
Wendy looked saddened for a moment. "I certainly missed my home when I left for a while."
"Aww, there, there, Wendy," he said, patting her on the shoulder. Pluto's ears drooped.
"I knew I'd be back one day and you came back too!" He laughed. "Besides! You got to have an amazing adventure in Neverland."
Wendy perked right back up. "I did, didn't I. And that's why I've come to see you. About Neverland that is." Hands clasped together, she sighed dreamily. "Oh, Mickey, I'd love to go back and visit Peter. I do miss him terribly. And of course, while I could not stay it would just be so lovely just to say hello."
She became lost in her thoughts for a few moments as if she were remembering something very special.
"Hmm." Mickey rubbed his chin as he thought about what he could do. "I know! I still have the Sorceror's hat! I could cast a spell that could make you fly!"
Pluto wagged his tail.
"Oh, Mickey!" she cried happily, her eyes sparkling with the joy she was feeling. "That would be absolutely splendid! May I go right now?"
Pluto looked over at Mickey, his ears perking up.
Mickey smiled. "Of course, but, ah, I wouldn't want your mother to worry about you, Wendy."
"Oh, no," Wendy said. "She wouldn't. Out of all the days we were in Neverland last time, hardly any time went by here. My mother is with John and Michael right now at the doctor's. They've come down with the flu."
She looked at Mickey pleadingly.
Mickey laughed and placed his hands on his hips. "Now how can I resist that look?"
Pluto barked and went over to Wendy, while Mickey held up a finger.
"I'll be right back."
He disappeared into another room. The sounds of rummaging in boxes was heard and a few minutes later, Mickey re-emerged carrying a dusty blue wizard's hat, decorated in silver stars, under his arm. He dusted it off, causing both Pluto and Wendy to sneeze and then placed it carefully on his head. He wiggled his fingers.
"Are you ready?"
With a small grin to match the nod she gave, Wendy closed her eyes and spread her arms out.
Pluto covered his eyes with his ears, but then propped one up so he could peek out.
"Now think of a happy thought!" Mickey instructed. He thought of Peter Pan, the lost boys, and Neverland, then brought his arms up and waved them back down, his fingers pointed directly at Wendy. Magic was released from the tips, circling Wendy, and at once the girl began to levitate.
"It's working!" he exclaimed.
Wendy opened her eyes and looked around. "Oh, Mickey!" she exclaimed. "You did it!" She flapped her arms for effect and laughed.
Mickey whooped and clapped his hands, while Pluto barked happily by his side.
"Oh, but wait!" Wendy said, sounding discouraged as she suddenly remembered something very important.
"It's daytime out! I won't be able to find Neverland during the day. How will I know what's second star to the right and straight on to morning?"
"Aw, shucks, that's easy!" Mickey said with a wave of his hand and a small chuckle.
He headed outside and glanced up at the sky, his brows creasing a little as he concentrated. Mickey looked to the right, he looked to the left, and then finally behind him.
"A-ha!" He waved Wendy outside. "You'll want to go in that direction," he told her.
Wendy floated down and pecked Mickey on top of his head.
"Thank you, Mickey. Goodbye!"
She pushed her arms down and flew off in the direction that Mickey indicated, her spirits soaring along with her.
"Goodbye!" Mickey called out. "Be careful!"
As he watched Wendy grow smaller and smaller in the distance, he said to Pluto, "Gosh, boy. Doesn't it feel good to help out a friend?"
Pluto sat beside Mickey panting heavily. The pair went back inside.

Not long after Mickey went inside, though, a bear came-a lumbering down the block. It was Br'er Bear, and he was searching for Wendy. By chance he walked to Mickey's front door and knocked on it with a large hand. "Uh, 's'there anybuhdy here?"
Pluto opened one eye and looked thoroughlly displeased at the thought of having another visitor. He closed it again, deciding to ignore the situation.
Mickey had just fixed himself a sandwhich when yet again someone else came to call. He laughed.
"Popular today, aren't we, Pluto?"
Pluto said nothing and turned around in a circle.
"Aww... don't be like that," Mickey said. He went and opened the door and found himself staring at a very furry stomach. He glanced up at the bear.
"Hello!"
The bear placed a palm on his cap and lifted it in acknowledgment. "Uh, howdy, Br'er... Mouse!"
"How may I help you?" Mickey asked cheerfully.
Pluto looked up at the deep voice coming from outside and his eyes widened when he saw the giant bear. He scrambled underneath the oval rug in front of Mickey's chair.
Unless Pluto got out of his way to anger Br'er Bear, he had nothing to worry about. "Have you seen a girl chil'... uh... about dis high?" he asked while holding an opened palm about Wendy's height.
Mickey placed his hand on his chin. Wendy was about that tall and so was Alice.
"Uh... can you give me a bit more of a description?" he asked. "And why do you need to know?"
He wasn't sure what Br'er Bear's intentions were and it would be unwise to simply just tell him where Wendy or Alice were.
"She has brown hair and a mighty purdy blue dress wid a purple bow. I's following her over dese here parts, but she went up and gon' ahead widout me."
Ah, well that would be Wendy no doubt.
"Er- was she... was she running from you?" Mickey tried to ask as gently as possible.
"She did? Uh, why?" Like a child, the bear placed a finger on his lip in confusion.
Mickey couldn't help but smile a little at the bear's misunderstanding. The creature seemed familiar to him now, though at first Mickey had not recognized him. B'rer Mouse clued him in though and he remembered the stories featuring Br'er Bear, and while this may be their first formal meeting, he knew the grizzly. ( Is he a grizzly bear? I'm not entirely sure). Mickey stepped across the threshold, Pluto straightening up under the mat, fearful for his master.
"Nevermind," Mickey said gently. "But I'm sorry you've just missed her. She's gone to a place called Neverland!"
"Dat's where she went?" he asked. "Ohh. She wanted to go dere. But... I wanna go wid her!"
"Oh, uh, heh, heh," Mickey chuckled nervously. "Well let me see here."
He thought back to see if Wendy had mentioned taking Br'er Bear along, because she might not have wanted him to go with her otherwise. He couldn't recall her saying anything. Doing his best to sound polite (and stall for time, he asked),
"Why aren't you with Br'er Fox?"
"I hain't seen him nowheres," the Bear replied.
"You haven't?" Mickey said sounding slightly shocked. It was true that many characters were divided among various places, but Mickey was certain Br'er Bear and Br'er Fox would have stuck together.
"Aren't ya worried about him?"
"Dah, naw. Naw. He can take care of hi'self. I's jus' see him when I does."
Mickey seemed crestfallen. "Oh, uh. I see." He had hoped that Br'er Bear would have at least seemed interested in regrouping with his old friend.
"And- and what about Br'er Rabbit," he ventured.
"Dahh, Br'er Rabbit? He's hain't no'ere near me. Look, I's jus' wanna help Sis Wendy..."
"Help her?" Mickey asked. "But Wendy's all right! Honest, she's never looked happier."
"Look," Br'er Bear said, losing patience. "She's my pardner. I gots'ta be dere for her."
Mustering up all the courage the mouse had, Mickey gulped and then put his hands on his hips.
"I understand that and it's very noble that you want to see her, but you don't seem to be hearing me. Wendy's gone and there's not much I can do about that. But how about we make a deal? Would you be interested in that?"
"Nahh," Br'er Bear grumbled. "Den take me to her if she's gon'!"
"Well- well now hang on a minute," Mickey said, holding up his hands. "I'm not sure where Wendy is at the moment, but I do know that she's all right." She's with Peter Pan, of course she'd be all right, the mouse thought. "But I'll tell you what. As soon as Wendy gets back, I'll have her contact ya! And then you can come see her yourself!"
Mickey smiled up at the Bear, hoping that this arrangement would please him. The truth was that Mickey really did not know where in Neverland Wendy had ended up. He couldn't just sent the Bear after her, because even if they were friends, Wendy would be difficult to find.
"Uh... I'll find her. Jus' point me to de d'rection."
Mickey sighed and walked past Br'er Bear and outside, Pluto at his heels. The dog looked up at the bear as he went past and growled softly.
Once outside, Mickey stood in the middle of the sidewalk and pointed up.
"There. That's where she went."
Br'er Bear looked up and jumped. He landed on the ground, and so he jumped again. Realizing that he couldn't go up any higher, he looked to Mickey with annoyance. "There hain't no way to get up dere."
Mickey chuckled a bit and placed his gloved hands on his hips.
"Now ya see why you can't go after Wendy! There's no way to get to her."
"Ya gots'tuh help me!" the Bear pleaded. "She'll be in mighty trubble if I ain't wid her."
"Trouble?" Mickey repeated, concerned. "What kind of trouble?"
"She's lost," he said, "least dat's what she don' said. I gots'tuh protect her! I jus' gots'tuh!" He was visibly growing upset.
Mickey admired Br’er Bear’s loyalty; maybe he had been mistaken about the bear and judged him too quickly.
“But you said she wanted to go to Neverland,” Mickey pointed out, understanding that the bear had a tendency to forget things and confuse himself. “And now she’s there, which means she’s no longer lost!” The mouse sighed. “Even if I could help you, there’s still no way for you to get to Neverland. I can’t even go. You see, you’re too old. You’ve grown up. Do yah… do yah see what I mean?”
Br'er Bear thought for a moment, and then started to express sheer annoyance. His lips curled, exposing lethally sharp teeth, and his normally passive red eyes displayed grave anger. "NAH," he snarled.

"N-now just take it easy," Mickey advised, bringing up his hands in defense. "I know you want to see her, but there's nothing anybody can do! Not even me."
Pluto stood in front of Mickey, emitting a low growl at Br'er Bear.
"Easy, Pluto," Mickey said nervouslly. "Don't make him anymore upset."
But the dog felt an instinctive need to protect Mickey Mouse and he wasn't going to back down just yet.

Wendy was coming back from Neverland just in time it seemed. Time was very different between the two worlds. A whole adventure had passed between when she left for Peter Pan's world, but only a little bit of time had passed here. Her tiny form appeared in the sky; she was still clad in the same dress she wore earlier.

Br'er Bear grabbed Mickey and held him up high, at first snarling and angry, but quickly softening to express extreme worry and sadness.
"NOW, LOOK! I jus' wants my friend'tuh be safe..."

"Whoa-ooah!" Mickey exclaimed when picked up into the air. Pluto began barking furiously. The mouse did not even notice Wendy, his entire focus on the angry and concerned bear he was now staring down at.

Now close enough to see what was going on, Wendy cupped her hands around her mouth and called out.
"Br'er Bear! No!"

Br'er Bear immediately released Mickey (safely) and looked tow here Wendy had called. "Sis Wendy?" His expression changed in a heartbeat, from sadness to ecstasy.

Mickey wiped the back of his hand across his forehead when set down. Really there was nothing he could do about Br'er Bear and Neverland. Luckily things had not gotten too far out of hand before Wendy came by.
Pluto sniffed furiously at Mickey and the mouse pushed his snout away. "Really, boy, it's all right, I'm fine."

"Yes, Br'er Bear, it's me," she called back. Wendy waved at Mickey on the ground. "Hello Mr Mouse! Are you all right?"
She had no idea what she had flown in on, but she was completely bewildered and furious to have watched Br'er Bear snatch up Mickey Mouse like that. As soon as she landed, that bear would get a firm talking to.

"Well we had to seperate at some point. I can't exactly bring a Bear home to Mother." Wendy placed her hands on her waist and looked at Br'er Bear crossly. "Now why were you trying to hurt Mr Mouse! He's my friend, he helped me. You shouldn't grab people like that Br'er Bear!"

"You are my friend," the English girl stressed. "But I would never think that any of my friends would try to hurt other people. So why were you being so mean to him?"
Wendy's expression had softened and she tilted her head to the side. She simply just wanted to get to the bottom of things.

This discussion was between girl and bear. Mickey knew well enough to keep his nose out of this conversatio and yet he couldn't help but say,
"Wendy, he didn't hurt me, I'm all right, honest."

"But since he's grown up, he can't go back to Neverland, so he would have to wait here until you returned," added Mickey.
Pluto glanced up the bear and then nestled himself under Mickey's arm, between him and the giant brute who had tried to hurt his pal.

"Oh, I see," was all Wendy could manage to say for the moment. She glanced down and stared at her toes, feeling guilty over the fact that she'd just had a fantastic time in Neverland while Br'er Bear had been looking for her.
"I'm sorry I left you like that, Br'er Bear," she told him, glancing up at him through her lashes. She moved forward and took hold of his paw. "I was so excited to go back to Neverland and when Mickey said he could help me, I forgot about everything else. I suppose I wasn't a good friend to you either."

Wendy gently freed her hand from Br'er Bear's and turned to face Mickey.
"Oh, it was full of adventures, as always. I finally found Peter but only after Tinkerbell and I escaped Captain Hook." The nostalgic tone she initially spoke with turned into a slightly frightened one. "He's becoming more and more agitated over his obsession with Peter. I thought we were done for, for a short while there." Wendy looked up at Br'er Bear and said, "But don't worry, everyone's pefectly fine and Peter got back at Captain Hook by having Tinkerbell put some pixie dust over the crocodile." She brought a hand to her mouth, trying to cover a small giggle. "It might have been a bit cruel, but I've never seen a ship of grown men so frantic before. It did look rather comical from up in the clouds."

Mickey placed his hands on his waist. "Hook has become more restless lately hasn't he? I can only tell you to be careful Wendy and if you ever need anything-" his thoughts drifted to a phrase used by his pal Jiminy Cricket, "-Give a little whistle." A small smile tugged at his lips and he looked over at Br'er Bear. "And remember you've got friends looking out for you."

"I'm glad you're concerned though," Wendy told Br'er Bear. "But I think I should head home now. I can't be gone for too long, otherwise Mother will get worried." She pivoted to face Br'er Bear. He looked to Mickey. "And when I sees Cap'n Hook, I'm gunna knock his head clean off!" He said it in a joyful tone, opposed to his previously enraged tone.
