This thread contains Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) regarding Dream League. And by Frequently Asked, I mean Never Asked, But It's Easier To Say FAQ So There You Go. If you have a question of your own, please post it in this thread, and Heffy or I will answer it. We want everyone interested in Dream League to know as much as possible. You do have the right!
Q: What is Dream League?
A: Dream League is an upcoming RPG forum, similar to FK. It is actually a spin-off of FK, but there's a twist: every Disney character in the RPG can be a superhero, supervillain, or a neutral gun for hire. They can also be civilians, but I predict those civilian characters will be much less common.
Q: That's Dream League the RPG, but what's the actual Dream League?
A: The Dream League is a group of superheroes that consist of Disney characters, as well as characters allowed (keep reading if you wish to know more). Founding members include Duck Avenger, Dreamchild, and other characters yet to be confirmed to be a founding member. As the RPG develops and the stories continue, more and more heroes will join or oppose the Dream League.
Q: When will Dream League launch?
A: November 12, 2010.
Q: So it's called Dream League?[/u]
A: It's not final, but it's sure looking like it. Suggestions are more than welcome, and if there's a better name we'll use it.
Q: Does my superhero/villain have to have superpowers?[/u]
A: No. They don't have to have superpowers, if you choose so.
Q: Does Dream League exist in the same universe/continuity/canon as Fantasmic Kingdom?[/u]
A: No. Just because this RPG is a spin-off of FK doesn't mean that it's the same. Dream League is altogether different and exists in a completely different universe. In fact, a lot of the characters will meet each other for the first time in Dream League, even if their FK counterparts already knew each other.
Q: Where does Dream League take place?[/u]
A: Like in FK, the Dream League RPG will have different role-play categories for different locations. But most of the action takes place in Epcot City.
Q: What's Epcot City?[/u]
A: The name Epcot City is Heffy's idea, and I love it! Epcot City is basically Dream League's answer to Gotham City, or Metropolis. Epcot City is the largest city in the fictional US state Calisota, as well as the most corrupted and dangerous. In Dream League canon, Epcot City is roughly 30 miles away from Duckburg and St. Canard, which will hopefully be easier for Scrooge (Nicole) and Darkwing Duck (Amanda).
Because Epcot City is so large and corrupted, it's the ideal focus for the Dream League.
Q: Will the Dream League's headquarters be in Epcot City?[/u]
A: It will be on an island, beyond the coastline of Epcot City's beaches. Members of the Dream League can get there by flight, boat, swimming, or transmitters. Why isn't the headquarters in Epcot City? Because who would stop villains from charging there, or bombing it, or something?
Q: What is the rating of this RPG?[/u]
A: Dream League is rated PG-13, which is a step up from Fantasmic Kingdom. Dream League is rated PG-13 because of violence, comic mischief, intense situations, nightmares, and (depending on the character) thematic elements. And explosions. Lots of explosions.
But just because Dream League is rated PG-13, this does not mean that G-rated characters should act PG-13. Violence is expected, but having Dreamchild (Alice) curse like a sailor is the stuff of nightmares. When an admin feels that a character's integrity has been compromised, they will send private messages if necessary.
Q: What characters are allowed?[/u]
A: Just like in FK, Disney characters, Studio Ghibli characters backed by Disney-produced dubs, and specific Muppet characters are allowed. Please refer to FK's own acceptable characters page to get a better idea.
Q: What characters are confirmed so far?[/u]

Q: Is there a character limit?[/u]
A: TBD
Q: Can I claim a character in Dream League that's already claimed in FK?[/u]
A: If the character and role-player have been inactive for a long time without a legitimate excuse or announcement, then the character is fair game. Otherwise, you have to ask the FK role-player of the character you want for permission first. Not all FK characters will appear in Dream League, so there is a sporting chance you can play as Ariel, or Maleficent, or other popular characters. (Ariel and Maleficent are just two examples of available characters in Dream League that are already taken in FK.)
Q: Are Kingdom Hearts characters allowed?[/u]
A: Nope. Sorry. Jeez, we can never give Sora and pals a break, huh?
Q: Does every superhero need to live in the Dream League HQ?
A: Only if the role-player wants his/her character(s) to. A lot of my characters will live there, but you don't have to follow my example. Some characters can live in their home, and only drop by the HQ when summoned. It's up to you!
Q: I heard something about roommates...[/u]
A: Right! This was my suggestion to Heffy, and he liked it. In the Dream League HQ's living quarters, there will be the option to have your character(s) room up with another character of the same biological sex. I suggested this because 1) it seemed in-character for this suggestion, and 2) because it's a great excuse to have more character interaction and development.
I repeat, roommates are an option, not a requirement. You don't have to do this if you don't want to, but like I said, it's a great way to add depth to your character by rooming with someone else. But no pressure!
Confirmed Roommates
Nightingale (Cinderella) and Sunshine (Aurora)
Tiana and Dreamchild (Alice)
If you would like to have your character room up with another character, be sure to contact that role-player and run it by them!
Q: Will Dream League be a comedy, or...?[/u]
A: Like Fantasmic Kingdom, the genre depends on the thread. Dream League is an action/comedy, first and foremost, but it can also be a horror (Boogie Man), drama, or even a musical. ()
Q: Who are the admins?[/u]
A: The admins are Joseph (yours truly!), Heffy, and Amanda.
Q: Who are the admin characters?[/u]
A: They are Dreamchild, She-Wolf, and Darkwing Duck.
Q: In 2006, there was an RPG forum with a similar concept. It was called Star Wishers. Is Dream League a sequel to Star Wishers?[/u]
A: Dream League is actually a reboot/revamp. It is not a sequel; there is no continuation, and Dream League is a totally clean slate.
Q: Aren't you scared that Dream League could negatively affect Fantasmic Kingdom's activity?[/u]
A: I've certainly thought of this extensively, and I've decided that I will trust myself and others to be responsible. And it's not like we don't have any plans for FK. On the contrary: we have arguably more major story arcs planned here in FK than in Dream League. And don't forget that a MAJOR announcement will go up on November 1!
Q: Will Dream League be any more or less difficult than Fantasmic Kingdom?
A: Because the core of Dream League is Disney characters having superpowers, there is more to balance than in FK. Not only will powers have to be balanced, but the character personalities must remain consistent with what the characters are like in official movies, shows, etc. Therefore, Dream League will be more challenging than FK, and is only recommended for role-players with experience and confidence.
Q: With all these superpowers in Dream League, is there a higher risk of Mary Sues, Gary Stus, and godmodders than in FK?[/u]
A: Without a doubt. That's one reason why there will be three admins instead of two. Characters will have superpowers, but that does not mean that they will be completely invincible. Sunshine is a prime example: although she's powerful, she can still sustain damage, and Spyndlite is powerful enough to actually kill her.
Q: Are Marvel characters allowed, because they're now owned by Disney?
A: At the current time, Marvel characters are not allowed in Dream League.
Q: What will the character romances be like?[/u]
A: Fantasmic Kingdom has a canon-relationship rule, but Dream League will be different. Because Dream League follows an entirely different canon and universe, and because there are role-players who enjoy breaking canon relationships, Dream League will allow non-canon romantic partnerships. For example, Esmeralda could fall in love with Florian, if she wanted to.
Here is Heffy's reasoning, which I agreed with.
"The characters here are the same as their film counterparts, more or less, except with superpowers, and - most importantly - entirely different backstories. So I can't exactly think of any logical problems with having inter-canon relationships in Dream League. So long as every role-player takes this issue in consideration."
Because Dream League is an extremely different ballgame than Fantasmic Kingdom and standard Disney canon in general, then there isn't a legitimate argument against canon relationships, apart from, "In my opinion they're stupid and annoying."
Long story short: they're allowed. For those who don't like that (present company included), then there's an easy solution: simply don't subscribe to it. Be sure to talk to other role-players to clear up any issue(s), though.
Q: So because non-canon romantic relationships are allowed, can I have my character be homosexua--[/b]
A: Hell no! This is the only catch: characters who were straight must remain straight. No ifs, ands, or buts. If you must express Disney characters subscribing to yaoi or yuri, take it to where it belongs: FanFiction.net. Or DeviantArt, depending on if you're a better writer or drawer.
Q: Will the Dream League have any special vehicles or aircraft they use (like how the X-men have the Blackbird and so forth)? [Nicole][/b]
A: Yes, great question! Thank you for reminding me. There will be at least one aircraft that Duck Avenger will enjoy flying, but it could be used by anyone with the skill, for whatever thread. No idea what the name could be, though, but maybe we'll think of a name after the design is finalized. Suggestions are more than welcome!
Heroes could have individual vehicles, too, provided that they have logical reasons why. For example, Darkwing could still have his vehicles/aircraft.
Q: Since DL has an alternate universe (AU) setting, I'm guessing Darkwing Duck and Liquidator will have never met before (DW is actually responsible for making the Liquidator into what he is, but since this is an AU I guess we could play around with origins), or would that be up to me and Amanda to decide? [Nicole]
A: For this example, I think you and Amanda should talk about this, just to make sure that you two will be on the same page and work out an origin that doesn't conflict with each other in role-play. Some Darkwing Duck villain origins might be tinkered slightly for Dream League: for example, Taurus Bulba might have to be reanimated by someone/something different than F.O.W.L, since I doubt F.O.W.L. will be present in Dream League. But as for the question with the Liquidator, I think talking with Amanda would help. ^^
Q: What year/time does Dream League take place?
A: I think this should be left ambiguous, so no one has to be concerned/worried. After all, this will likely take place in a floating timeline, like in FK. Floating timeline is a device used in fiction, particularly in comics and animation, to explain why characters age little or not at all over years and decades, though real-world markers like notable people and technology reflected in the fictional work do change with the times (Wikipedia, a name you can trust!).
Q: What's this I hear about meteorites in Dream League?
A: In Dream League, some superheroes will get their powers by being exposed to meteorites that land on Earth. The meteorites are irradiated with mystery energy that infuses superpowers to those who make contact. Where these meteorites come from, and why they have these qualities, is currently unknown. I personally tinkered with the idea of Emperor Zurg somehow being responsible for this, but this isn't official yet. We'll just ask the question later, shall we?
Q: Do my characters have to obtain their superpower only by meteorites?
A: Of course not! The meteorites are really just an easy go-to solution for having one's characters become gifted. Heffy and I agreed that if someone is having trouble coming up with a good reason for his/her character becoming powerful, then the widespread meteorites across the globe is a good and easy excuse. But you don't have to subscribe to it if you don't want to.
Q: Who will be the admin characters?
A: Dreamchild will be mine, She-Wolf will be Heffy's, and I'm not sure about Amanda.
Q: Will Dream League have a "one character protected from the time clause" rule, similar in FK?[/b]
A: TBD
Q: Do I have to write an origin for my superhero/supervillain?[/b]
A: It's likely that not everyone will have a solid origin they're satisfied with immediately, but origins are suggested. More details to follow on this subject.
Q: How powerful can my character be?[/b]
A: As long as your character isn't completely invulnerable and omnipotent, you should be fine. Take a look at Sunshine: she has superpowered strength and can fly, but she can still take damage. Also, she's greatly weakened by Spyndlite, and if she's exposed to Spyndlite enough, she could be killed. So that's an example of how even a strong character has a major flaw.
If you're basing your character on an official superhero, base them on a balanced hero who isn't omnipotent. This comparison is okay...
But don't worry! You can always run your character by the admins and see if it's okay. In fact, that might be a requirement. We'll see...
... but this is going way too far.
Q: Spyndlite? What is that, a total rip-off of Kryptonite?[/b]
A: Yeah. ^^;
Q: What is the URL link to Dream League?[/b]
A: www.thedreamleague.proboards.com
Please bear in mind that it has a "THE" in the address.
Q: By the way, a question in general, the Nightmare League, would we have to create another account for our "evil counterparts" as one could call it? As in, would I have to make another one for "Evil Kimmie"? (Drake)[/b]
A: Because the Nightmare League will only appear in just one thread, they will be played in the same account as their respective counterparts. For example, I will play both Sunshine and Nightfall in the same account. You may however use different color codes to differentiate, if you wish.
