Name: Louie
Role: King of the Apes
Age: Unknown; presumably around the same age as Baloo, Bagheera, Kaa, and Shere Khan
Species: Orangutan
Gender: Male
Nationality: Unknown, but resides in India
Alignment: Neutral
Attire: Not applicable
Abilities: The skills of a crafty orangutan; amazing scat-singing; can use his hands to inexplicably emulate a trumpet; dancing; royalty amongst monkeys and apes
Weakness: Self-centered; often unknowing of the trouble and pain he can cause (either that, or he simply doesn't care); the shortcomings of an orangutan, including the inability to swim
Accessories: An endless supply of bananas
Constant Companions: His entourage of monkeys. King Louie rules many, and they do whatever he orders (although there is one known obstinate)
Notable Acquaintances: Baloo; Bagheera; Mowgli
Enemies: Shere Khan (although Louie hasn't been known to affiliate with the tiger, and the orangutan intends to keep it that way)
Character Information: Louie is an orangutan, and king of the apes in the jungles of India. Because he is the king, he has the power to command many obedient (mostly) monkeys. Very like Louie himself, the king's subjects love to party and "monkey around."
But as of late, King Louie has become bored with his role. As he once explained, "[he] reached the top and had to stop, and that's what's been botherin' [him]." Louie strongly desires to either become human, or at least learn the secret of fire. He has never outright explained why he wishes to control fire, but it could be assumed that such a quality would be beneficial to the king. It's also likely that, with fire, King Louie would have power over fearsome antagonists in the jungle like Shere Khan (who has a fear of fire).
King Louie, like Kaa, isn't necessarily evil. In fact, King Louie is probably even less threatening than the python. Louie can be a bully, and has been known to abduct a child, but he means no malicious harm. He just wants to be at the top of the chain, and would do almost anything to achieve it.
Like Baloo, Louie is heavily music-inclined. He has an amazingly bizarre ability to mimic a trumpet by blowing into his hands. But besides that, Louie is a professional scat singer, and an accomplished dancer of the jungle. In fact, if Baloo and Louie weren't so conflicted regarding Mowgli, they'd likely be swinging pals.
Louie and his entourage live in an ancient ruins in India. Recently, a portion of the ruins collapsed, but other sections remain standing.
Louie happily sits on his throne in the ancient ruins, as his monkey entourage surround him.
Voice Actor: Louis Prima (1967 film); Jim Cummings (replacement)
Louis Prima
In Disney's The Jungle Book (1967), what Louie desired was man's red fire, to make his dream come true.
Fun Fact: Orangutans are actually not native to India!
