NAME: Naveen.
NICKNAMES: Aside from the usual titles of “Sire” or “Your Highness,” Ray tended to call him “Cap'.”
AGE: 20.
GENDER: Male.
SPECIES: (Animated) human, though he was a frog once.
NATIONALITY: Maldonian; Maldonia is a fictional island kingdom in the Mediterranean.
ROLE: Hero.
FILM: The Princess and the Frog (2009).
APPEARANCE: One can't deny that Naveen is attractive. He's very much so, which has always made the ladies swoon and other men jealous. He's a young man of 20, standing at approximately 6' 0” and weighing 184 lbs. His body has no fat at all, being comprised completely of lean muscle; his most prominent features are his chest and biceps. Naveen has a high metabolism that's kept him from becoming overweight, which would explain why he's never become so from never having done anything for himself until shortly before (and after) his marriage to Tiana.
He has smooth, olive-toned skin typical of Mediterranean peoples, which doesn't have really any blemishes or scars (save ones on his fingers where they were pricked by Dr. Facilier's amulet). To match, he has a head of short and wavy dark-brown hair that he always makes sure is combed and parted neatly; his bangs actually bounce if one were to flick them. It always smells of flowers, considering the rich shampoos and conditioners he uses in it. He himself always smells of expensive cologne. Large, expressive brown eyes are framed by thick, dark eyebrows, and said eyes are set evenly on either side of a perfectly centered (though slightly large) nose. His face is ovular in shape, his chin being rather prominent. Naveen's smile is to die for, for full and thick lips part to reveal two rows of perfectly straight pearly-white teeth. His ears are large and round, easily visible because of the shortness of his hair.
The prince owns a variety of outfits, ranging from the very casual to the very formal; he prefers the first, though. His wardrobe is mostly comprised of whites, yellows, beige, khakis, and browns – maybe a bit of orange here and there. Since having been a frog however, he's added in cooler colors like green, blue, and black. His swamp outfit that he wore at his first wedding serves as his costume on occasions that call for it.
As far as Naveen's frog form is concerned, he's still as charming and handsome as ever...in a different sort of way. Obviously, he's small, but still rather tall for an amphibian. His skin is an olive-green color, and when people might say he's slimy, he gets defensive and says “It is not slime! It is mucus!” Naveen's long arms and legs are lean muscled as well, though not nearly as much as his normal self. He has a much lighter green underbelly, and olive-drab stripes decorate his legs, two on each. While he doesn't have hair or eyebrows, he still retains his large and expressive eyes, as well as his smile. The skin above Naveen's eyes is colored dark-brown, resembling said eyebrows. He's also known for his long and versatile pink tongue, which he usually uses to latch onto things and catch flies with. He's also used it in the past to prepare his lips for kissing. Also, Naveen doesn't wear clothes in this form.
He's known for his rather thick accent. It sound like a mix of French and Spanish, but this is only because his homeland has been influenced by the surrounding Mediterranean and Arabic countries. The Maldonian language itself is descended from Italian, and Italy is where Maldonia's people originated from centuries ago. Naveen's Tenor voice only serves to accentuate his exotic appeal.

PERSONALITY: As a child, Naveen was spoiled rotten. He was waited on hand and foot by servants who did everything for him, including: bathing him, brushed his teeth, combing his hair, dressing him, feeding him, playing with him, and driving him everywhere. Hardly (if ever) did Naveen have to lift a finger. This, along with the complete adoration and spoiling of his parents, made Naveen think he could get whatever he wanted. He didn't have to do anything he didn't want to do – that was pretty much everything! The only thing he ever did have to do (or so he told himself) was have a good time and see how many hearts he could break. After all, Naveen never wanted a serious relationship. Once you were married, you were stuck with a wife who constantly nagged you and drained you of both money and a life. What fun was there in that? None as far as he was concerned.
Growing older, he grew quite handsome and charming. He quickly learned to use his good looks and charm to win over the opposite sex. Blessed with the natural gifts of persuasion and wit, Naveen was able to get him out of most situations. This worked for him for a while...that is, until his parents realized the errors of their parenting and cut him out from both the family fortune and line of succession. Forced with the fact that he might have to become responsible and actually do work, he decided took the easy way out as he'd always done by getting mixed up with Dr. Facilier. When his plans backfired on him, the now frog prince dreaded his “hakuna matata” lifestyle had finally come to and end. For the first time ever, Naveen had to look after himself and do whatever he could think of to survive.
Try as he might, Naveen realized that he couldn't do anything worthwhile for himself. Partying and goofing off weren't going to get him food or water or shelter – not to mention becoming human again. With the help of Tiana and their friends, he's now learned that he's not as helpless as he once thought he was. If he put his minds to things, the sky is the limit. He'ss also realized that money isn't everything, but that love and friendship are. Newly found courage and dedication keep Naveen in line, a responsible and hard working man. He still thinks work is a bore, but doesn't complain now when asked to do it. He's even found ways to turn it into something fun!
Though certainly having changed for the better, Naveen is still a work in progress. He's still not above partying and dancing wildly through the streets with his ukulele. He can still be arrogant and self-absorbed at times as well. His narcissistic side remains strong as ever, for he continues to do things like admiring himself in the mirror or fooling with his appearance to make sure he looks flawless. Persuasion and charm are still used frequently to get what he wants. Being married to Tiana now has forced him to give up his flirtatious ways. One might think that's like asking him to give up the air he breathes, but he'll tell you otherwise. Truly in love with his wife, he doesn't see any need to look at other women. If he still did, he'd hurt Tiana, and that's something Naveen could never do. Even so, it certainly doesn't stop the ladies from flocking to him.
HISTORY: Naveen was born the elder son of King Fernando and Queen Lucia of Maldonia. As far as he can remember, he was spoiled by his servants and the constant attention and adoration of his parents. He quite enjoyed this pampered lifestyle, and as he grew up, he saw he was strikingly attractive. Discovering the gifts of persuasion and devilish charm early on, Naveen would smooth talk his way out of situations. As soon he became interested in the opposite sex, he began chasing female servants around the castle, as well as girls in the village below. Naveen knew very well what his high status and suave got him, and he always used these to his advantage.
After the birth of his younger brother Ralphie did Fernando and Lucia begin to notice the errors of their ways. When Naveen turned twenty, his parents did what they thought would remedy his poor behavior – they cut him off from both the family fortune and the crown. Only after he married and settled down or got a job (or both) would he be reinstated to his former life. Angry and frustrated, Naveen reluctantly accepted their decision and, with his pompous valet Lawrence, took the next ship to America.
The ship eventually arrived in New Orleans, where Naveen had heard beforehand of the beautiful Charlotte La Bouff and the vast fortune she'd inherit upon her father's death. After all, Eli “Big Daddy” La Bouff was not only the wealthiest sugar mill owner in Louisiana, but also its wealthiest citizen. Naveen thought her answer to his prayers, if only because he wished to regain his parents' favor. After introducing himself to them and being invited to stay at their estate, he left and took off to spend some quality time with himself. While dancing in the streets and partying, Naveen (and incidentally, Lawrence) met Dr. Facilier. Facilier, through the use of misleading slang, convinced Naveen that he could help him get what he wanted without the need to marry or work. The prince and servant followed the witchdoctor to his parlor, where Naveen was tricked into a fake deal and turned into a frog. Lawrence on the other hand, was given the ability to take on Naveen's appearance through the use of an amulet in which Facilier had used to draw some of the prince's blood. When the blood ran out, however, Lawrence would revert to his normal self.
Facilier had locked Naveen inside a jar, and to escape, the prince pretended to be suffocating from lack of air. When Lawrence opened said jar, Naveen hopped away and made his way to a balcony. There, he met a young waitress named Tiana. Thinking she was a princess because of a particular costume she was wearing, he asked her to kiss him. She was obviously reluctant at first, but Naveen managed to win her over when he lied to her about being wealthy and able to fulfill her greatest wish. When Tiana finally did kiss him, he thought the spell over him would be broken and he'd be human again. He found he was wrong when Tiana became a frog as well, simply because she wasn't an actual princess. In her rage, she tackled the pompous prince and caused them to fall off the balcony. They landed in the masquerade ball below, where their very presence caused quite a ruckus. Both managed to escape on some party balloons in the nick of time, finding out they could now speak to animals when Charlotte's bloodhound realized the female frog was Tiana.
Lighting struck the balloons, causing the two frogs to be hurled deep within the bayou. There, they were nearly devoured by alligators and cranes, but again, managed to escape. Along the way, they'd make a friend in Louis, a trumpet playing alligator who wanted to become a famous jazz musician. Louis had told Naveen and Tiana about Mama Odie, an ancient voodoo priestess who might be able to break the spell over them. He'd been reluctant to take them there at first, but with Naveen's gift of persuasion, the alligator changed his mind. For a time, he was leading them in the wrong direction, but they eventually met Raymond, a Cajun firefly who everyone called “Ray” for short. He was a personal friend of Mama Odie's, and he offered to take the trio there himself. With the help of his relatives, Ray led them in the right direction.
Meanwhile, Lawrence's amulet had emptied unexpectedly, and without Naveen's blood to fill it, Facilier's plans of fortune and domination were destroyed. Reluctantly, Facilier made a deal with demons; in exchange for their help in recapturing the missing prince and aiding him in his ambitions, they'd get the souls of every citizen of New Orleans. Liking this, the demons agreed and went forth to claim Naveen again. As this happened, frog hunters were scavenging through the bayou, looking for their next meal. They found Naveen and Tiana and almost captured them, but with teamwork, they were able to frighten them off. The friends then continued their journey, passing through “pricker bushes” that left Louis looking like a pin cushion. As he overreacted to the minimal pain they caused him as Ray took them out, Tiana suggested they eat. Everyone liked the idea, especially when she said they could have “swamp gumbo.” Naveen thought she'd do all the work herself, but she forced him to try to mince a mushroom. It was then that the prince discovered and admitted he couldn't do anything for himself. Tiana realized she'd been a bit too hard on him and helped him out. Naveen began to notice something about her that stirred him.
Ray looked up and saw the Evening Star, who he told everyone was named “Evangeline.” He was in love with her, and though she wasn't able to return his feelings as he wanted her to, he assured himself she felt the same way. As he sang, Naveen found a new inspiration and tried to get Tiana to dance with him. She was reluctant at first, admitting she didn't know how. He convinced her that if she could teach someone like him to mince, he could teach someone like her to dance. Louis and Ray played while the two frogs waltzed and spun. At the end of the song, Naveen looked at the starlight reflecting in Tiana's eyes, and it was then that he realized that he felt more than a simple friendship for her. They nearly kissed, but she became uncomfortable and broke it off. As Naveen stood there longing, the shadows found them and tried to take him away. They would've succeeded, had Mama Odie not stepped in. She destroyed them with a flick of her magic torch, and took the group to her home deep within the bayou, a wrecked boat in a rather large tree.
There, Naveen, Tiana, and Louis tried to get Mama Odie to make them human. She denied them though, telling them that what they wanted wasn't what they truly needed, and despite her attempts to convince them of this, neither Naveen, Tiana, or Louis understood...well, the latter two anyway. The prince saw that money and a good time weren't everything – Tiana was everything. Those feelings he'd felt earlier were ones of true love. Resigned, the voodoo priestess revealed to them (with the help of her pet snake Juju) that to break the curse, he had to kiss a princess. Surprisingly, that princess was Charlotte, as she was Princess of the Mardi Gras parade. If Naveen didn't do so by midnight, he and Tiana would forever remain as frogs. Saying their farewells, the group boarded the next paddle-boat to New Orleans. Naveen promised himself that he'd reveal his feelings to the waitress, that he'd ask her to marry him.
On the ship, the prince made a makeshift ring and set up a private dinner for him and Tiana – a date in his mind. It didn't quite go as he planned, however, and when they were finally alone, he readied the ring he'd placed in a walnut shell. As they talked, Naveen saw that she was more interested in her restaurant than anything else, and she obviously didn't feel the same way he did. Heartbroken, Naveen solemnly promised to marry Charlotte and use the money to buy Tiana her restaurant as he'd earlier promised. Unbeknownst to everyone, the shadows came and successfully captured him again. Back at the La Bouff estate, Facilier refilled the amulet and locked Naveen away in a jewelry box. Lawrence in Naveen's form had earlier proposed to Charlotte, and with the imprisoned royal in his company, were soon to be wedded in the Mardi Gras parade. Facilier had created a voodoo doll of her father and was going to use it to kill him, after which he'd split the La Bouff fortune with Lawrence (he'd get most of it) and become terribly wealthy. With that newly found wealth, he planned to have New Orleans within the palm of his hand. His plans failed when Ray heard the prince's cries for help and not only freed him, but stole the amulet away from Lawrence and flew off.
Tiana had realized that she too loved Naveen, and when she set out to look for him, she'd spotted Lawrence and Charlotte aboard the lead float. She ran away to the cemetery in sorrow, only to be met by Ray. He told her all that had just happened and gave her the amulet, ordering her to flee with it. She did as she was told, though she was eventually cornered by the witchdoctor. Facilier tried to make a deal with her – the amulet for her restaurant. The waitress saw through his deception, however, and smashed the object into pieces. Unable to pay back his debt to the voodoo spirits, they took Facilier into the Underworld, killing him instantly.
In the meantime, Lawrence had fled into the church, Naveen following suit. Lawrence had the prince in his grip and declaring his hatred for him when an angry and flustered Charlotte thrust open the church doors. Seeing that her sweet prince had become an overweight blob, she screamed as he fled past her. Naveen revealed himself to her, which undoubtedly frightened her; after all, the debutante had never seen a talking frog before. He revealed to her the situation and how she had to kiss him. Charlotte thought her dreams were going to come true, but when Tiana arrived and she saw how much they loved each other, she put aside her own ambitions and offered to do it for her love of them both. By the time she kissed him, it was too late. Naveen and Tiana resigned themselves to their fate, so long as they were never parted again. Louis came with a mortally wounded Ray in his hands, the firefly having been stepped on by Facilier while trying to fend off the shadows. The firefly died happily in knowing that Naveen and Tiana had finally seen past their initial conceptions of each other and were together.
A solemn funeral procession was held back in the bayou. No one could hardly contain their emotions, but their tears of grief became tears of joy when they saw Ray's soul join Evangeline in the sky. She'd been apparently real after all! Knowing that all was well, the couple went forward with an elaborate swamp wedding, attended by their animal friends and with Mama Odie presiding as pastor. When Naveen and Tiana kissed, they were restored to their proper forms. As Tiana had married a prince, she automatically became a princess, thus fulfilling the terms of the spell. They returned to New Orleans with Louis and held a human wedding, attended by friends and family. Finally married, Naveen and Tiana were able to win the old sugar mill from the Fenner brothers with a little “convincing” from Louis. Being reinstated into the family fortune again, the prince and princess were able to purchase the supplies to fix the building up, turning ito Tiana's Palace. Naveen and Louis started a band called The Firefly Five Plus Lou, named in Ray's memory, which would serve as the restaurant's main entertainment. Aside from helping his wife run the place, Naveen also became a waiter, dancing around and delighting customers with his minced specialties. As everyone danced, husband and wife shared a kiss and danced the night away, looked down upon by Ray and Evangeline.
