After willingly listing in the old home guard, Emelius Browne supported war effort by combating the Third Reich. Fortunately, he never really participated in any serious fights, and in the end he safely returned to Pepperinge Eye with his fellow old home guard. The youngest of the squad, he learned the guards' anthem fairly quickly, and always joined in when it was sang.
Call out the navy, call out the ranks Call out the air force, call out the tanks From the cliffs of Dover call up the gulls And don’t forget the loyal territorials!
But, who’s sticking in here? Who will defend every inch of England no matter what they send? Who’s standing firm in our own front yard? The soldiers of the old home guard That’s who! The soldiers of the old home guard!
For we wrote the stories of the old brigades We know the glory of yesterday’s parades Who’s standing firm in our own front yard? The soldiers of the old home guard That’s who! The soldiers of the old home guard![/i]
General Sir Brian Teagler called for a full stop. He turned to his obedient soldiers and smiled. The war was over. "Dismissed!" he called.
The guardsmen relaxed and walked off in every which way. Emelius Browne, grinning happily, immediately started for Eglantine Price's house. It was not long before he arrived there, and he debated whether to rush right in or surprise her. He decided to compromise; he hastily but quietly approached the front door and gave it a good three knocks.
He straightened his uniform hat and stood in a soldierly stance, with a similarly serious expression.

*On the other side of the door, Eglantine was inside her house, preparing for tea time, when Emelius knocked. Cosmic Creepus stirred awake from his post on a table near the kitchen door, and staring at the front door as if it offended him, let out a long yowl. Eglantine, carrying a tray containing a tea set, and some whole grain oatmeal biscuits, came through the kitchen door, and sighing, addresses her cat.*
Yes, I hear the door Creepus, thank you kindly. I may be getting older, but my hearing is quite fine.
*She sets the tea set down on the dining table, and walks to the front door, answering it. She looks shocked.*
E-Emelius? but...how?

Emelius grinned exaggeratedly and gave Eglantine a crisp salute. "Emelius Browne, at your service!"
His bag rested by his feet. After the joke he removed his hat and smiled sweetly to his love. "I have been dismissed, Eglantine. I am so happy to see you again. Where are the children?"
Not only did he miss Eglantine, but he also greatly missed the children they cared for.

*Eglantine's smile slowly faded, knowing what happened to the children.*
Well...I'm afraid I have bad news. Come inside, Emelius, I'll tell you everything over tea.
*She motioned him indoors, and sat on the couch. She pours him a cup of tea, then begins.*
The problem is...after they announced the war was over and done on the radio, the children were utterly worried about their parents well-being. I tried to stop them from going, but...dash it all, they got away on the bed...Charlie had apparently held onto the Bedknob after all this time. I can only hope they found their parents alive and well...I've been trying to remember a tracking spell from your book, but you know my memory, of course.
*She sighs, frowning a bit.*
I've asked the entire town for help, but no luck so far.

Emelius accepted the offer, and stepped inside the lovely house, following Eglantine. He casually rested his bag near the door, and took off his military hat. No need for that old thing anymore. He followed the woman he loved to the sofas, and sat down at an available chair facing Ms. Price. He accepted the cup of tea, but he did not drink a single drop, because of his worry after her explanation.
"Blast it," he said with simultaneous frustration and worry. "They shouldn't have taken off alone!" He looked at the direction where the old work room was, which had been destroyed as a result of their combat with the Nazis. "And the spells are gone... Oh, dear." He looked back to Eglantine. "But they're smart kids. They should be well." He smiled as best as he could, even though his eyes still expressed concern.

*Eglantine glances over to Emelius.*
I suppose you're right, really...I just hope they at least contact us somehow. Still, I wish my memory wasn't so bad, the situation could've been avoided altogether if I just could of remembered that blasted tracking spell.

Emelius Brown's forced smile faded as he rested his left hand against the nearest wall, scratched his chin with his right thumb and index finger, and tilted his head downward. He tried to think of something that could help, and quick.
"Well, perhaps I could try remembering," he said without looking at Eglantine, although he nodded. "What was it?" After a long period of silence he shook his head and furrowed his eyebrows. "Blast! That wasn't it. I..." He sighed, straightened himself and threw his hands up into the air in frustration. His defeated eyes rested on the woman he loved. "I haven't the foggiest, Eglantine."
Just before he could admit defeat, though, his eyes lit up, and raised an index finger. "Wait! There has to be another witch, or wizard, somewhere in this world! If we could find one who could help--!" He smiled at Eglantine, allowing her to finish the idea.
