Something very amusing happened about five hours ago. I drove to Sacramento Airport and picked up my parents, who returned home via a flight. On the drive home, the three of us talked about old television and radio shows. I knew my dad used to be a huge fan of The Lone Ranger, so I told him, "Hey, did you hear that Disney is making a new Lone Ranger movie?" Dad replied, "Really? Interesting!" As soon as we returned home, I skimmed through Disney news. And guess what? Disney's The Lone Ranger is cancelled. Haha! Ah, funny. But, yes, the movie has been scrapped by Walt Disney Studios over budget concerns. Disney wasn't too thrilled with the movie's budget, which would have fetched over $200 million. So, that movie has been killed. But, who knows? Maybe the movie will be picked up by a different studio. The Lone Ranger would have been produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Gore Verbinski. The Ranger himself would have been performed by Armie Hammer, Tanto would be played by Johnny Depp, and Helena Bonham Carter would have been in the movie, too. Bye-ho, Silver! Away! :[ Really? You guys couldn't have found a real Native American for that part?
Well, it's been canceled at any rate. Maybe that was a good move.

Yeah, this movie didn't sound too hot. Why would a western movie cost over $250 million? The answer is: werewolves. This movie would have had werewolves, a ton of Native American supernaturalism, and Tonto would have been the primary focus... instead of the friggin' titular character! Look, guys, you don't to add a supernatural twist to every genre. It worked for Curse of the Black Pearl because, while that movie did have supernatural elements, the movie was still very much focused on pirates. The sequels (especially the third and fourth) just got way out of control, and lost that focus. That's why I wouldn't be too stoked on a western film with werewolves. Just give us a western. True Grit, I love you. Source: movies.ign.com/articles/118/1187876p1.html

LOL. Oh Radcliffe.
Werewolves?? Uh, logic does not compute.
Of course Tonto-Depp would've been the focus instead of that silly Lone Ranger guy (he must not be that important anyways, right?), he's Johnny Depp! You need his fanatical fangirls to ensure that your picture makes ton of money.
Seriously, I know that not all Johnny Depp fans are that way, and I like him too, but... I think he's overexposed now. IMHO.

I love Johnny Depp (he's one of my favorite actors), but, yeah, he's in a lot of movies now. With all due respect, Tim Burton, your man crush doesn't have to be in ALL of your movies. And while we're on the same subject, just because you managed to 'twitterpate' Helena Bonham Carter doesn't mean she has to be in all of your movies! I love her, too, but come on! Step out of your comfort zone every once in a while, please! [/rant]

They're always weird and dark and kooky.... ugh, enough already!

UPDATE!The Lone Ranger is saved and back in production. The outrageous $250 million+ budget has been trimmed back to a slightly less but still outrageous $215 million. $215 million for a western? Seriously? Those werewolves, man! I'm tellin' ya! Anyway, Johnny Depp is still on board to play Tonto, Armie Hammer is still attached to the Ranger himself, and Ruth Wilson is still game for the heroine. The director is the same (Gore Verbinski), and Jerry Bruckheimer is still producing. Notice how I listed Tonto before the Lone Ranger himself. That's because this movie is confirmed to focus more on the sidekick, rather than the hero. The movie will likely start shooting early next year. The final release date is unknown at this time. Are you getting sick of hearing about The Lone Ranger? Too bad! Supernatural coyotes have been cut from the film, which helped lower the film's budget to Disney's approval. Supernatural coyotes...

So, the movie is a massive flop, was not met with a good reception (mixed to negative reviews), and the sky is blue.
