Real Name: Madame Adele Upanova
Alias: Dawn Chorus
Age: 21
Species: Ostrich
Sex: Female
Nationality: French
Alignment: Lawful Good
Affiliated With: Currently no-one
Status: Active
Physical Description (Body structure, eye color, hair color, etc.): Adele is exactly six feet tall, placing her at a fairly average position in terms of female Ostrich height. Her feathers are black and white in colour; they’re black where they make contact with her body, and suddenly change to white at the ends of her wings and tail, as well as around her legs. She has relatively large eyes for an Ostrich, which are framed by long, elegant lashes.
Appearance (Dream League): Being an Ostrich, there is naturally a limit to how much clothing Dawn Chorus can wear. For this reason her dream league costume simply consists of a large, crimson hair bow (in order to distract people who look at her face), a ribbon around her neck, and a pair of specially reinforced ballet shoes that provide extra weight behind her kicks.
Appearance (Outside of Costume): When out of costume she merely takes off her bow and ribbon, puts on a pair of glasses, and replaces her ballet shoes with a more conventional pair. Somehow to this day no-one has seen through this.
Abilities and Powers: Dawn Chorus only has one superpower to her name: her sonic scream. She can emit a powerful stream of sonic vibrations from her mouth, which strike in a conical pattern with a powerful concussive force. Whilst primarily a combat ability, the scream can also be modulated for several other purposes such as shattering glass or vibrating a lock open. She is also an incredibly adept martial-artist, having spent several years travelling the world to learn as many different forms as possible, eventually merging them together into one of her own creation.
Weaknesses: If gagged, or for some other reason unable to open her mouth (for example if someone is physically holding it shut), Dawn Chorus is completely unable to use her sonic scream ability. Other than this, her main weakness is the fact that she has wings rather than the arms that most martial arts rely on. Although she has learnt to use her wings as functioning arms to some degree, this does somewhat limit the amount of moves at her disposal.
Accessories: She has a special bag concealed within the depths of her plumage, in which she carries either her dream league costume or her civilian disguise.
Character Information (Personality & Motivation): Madame Upanova was born and raised in Paris, France, where from an early age she was intensively trained in the art of ballet. On her sixteenth birthday she joined the Fantasia Fantasmica ballet company and quickly attracted a lot of attention, becoming the company’s prima ballerina only a few days after her eighteenth birthday. Her first leading role was in a production of the classic ‘Dance of the Hours’, which was set to tour around several major cities in America. Unfortunately it seemed that destiny did not want her to achieve fame, for the tour never got any further than its first stop: Epcot City in the state of Calisota.
Opening night of the performance was raided by a gang of reptilian thieves led by the vile monster, Ben Ali Gator. Blocking all escape routes, they systematically stripped the wealthy audience of all valuables, ready to tear their fangs into anyone who even thought about trying to call for help. Fortunately, Upanova spotted an unguarded window in the theatre and managed to slip out into the night, quickly heading for the police station in order to get help. Unfortunately, one of the alligators had witnessed her escape, and the gang had decided to punish everyone else present for her doing so. By the time the police arrived most of the ballet company had already moved on.
This atrocity drove Upanova into a deep depression, the dancer blaming herself for having caused Ben’s gang to resort to such extreme measures. Her life having completely crumbled around her, she decided to instead dedicate herself to preventing something like this from ever happening again, and thus began to train as a vigilante. She spent the next three travelling the world, teaching herself as much as possible to aid in her upcoming war on crime. Every time she encountered a new form of martial arts she did her best to master it, eventually creating her own fighting style that was a mix of several pre-existing ones, with a touch of her ballet training for added style and grace.
After turning twenty-one she returned to Epcot City, having decided that this was the city that most needed her help. Here she began her crusade against crime, setting herself up as the heroine Dawn Chorus. With the help of her sonic scream (a strange superpower that she’d possessed since birth but had to hide whilst attempting to live a normal life with the ballet company), she managed to crush Ben Ali Gator’s hold on the criminal underworld, locking him and his gang away inside D’Arque asylum. Super-heroics don’t pay the bills however, for which reason she took a day job working in Epcot City’s largest library.
