"At first Rapunzel was terribly frightened when a man, such as her eyes had never yet beheld, came to her; but the king's son began to talk to her quite like a friend, and told her that his heart had been so stirred that it had let him have no rest, and he had been forced to see her.
Her dark eyes scanned the text as she read, giving the words life and playing the scenes out in her head as she put voices to them. She was good at bringing characters to life, must’ve had something to do with her imagination, she had quite a good one when she read quietly like this. Though when one lived in an enchanted castle, you didn’t really need much of an imagination, especially when the household objects around you stopped by for a chat on a regular basis.
Her slender legs folded gracefully beneath her, as she lay nestled into a large red velvet armchair beside a huge, roaring fire, Belle, gently moving some bangs form her face smiled happily. There was nothing she liked better then sitting quietly in the parlour and reading a fairytale. The books were like a solstice for her, a way for her to escape the strange life she was now living when certain…things became too much for her to handle.
On a table which had kindly wandered over to her when she’d asked him too, sat a tea cup and a plate of fresh backed biscuits and taking a break form the story, she reached out and picked the cup up gently, taking a long sip from it before smiling and whispering to the cup “Thank you for finding me such a wonderful story, It was very kind of you!”
The cup nodded and blushed before she set it back down on its saucer again, returning her eyes to the page before a loud knock on the parlor door announced a visitor. [/blockquote]

Using one of her fingers as a book mark, she gently closed the books heavy, thread bare cover and held it close to her chest before rising gracefully from the chair and stumbling a little as the blood began to flow again. She'd been sat in the same position for quite a while, though when her head was buried in a book, she rarely noticed anything else around her, which included her limbs growing numb. Smiling a little at her own folly, it looked like the door had beaten her to...well the door this time and she looked up to find herself staring into a pair of wide, innocent eyes.
Offering the newcomer a welcoming smile, Belle's own dark eyes gave her willowy frame a once over, before sudden realization struck her and she hurried forwards, forgetting for the moment, to introduce herself. "Oh you must be frozen!" Taking the girl's hands quickly in her own, Belle, all manners forgotten, pulled the visitor quickly towards the crackling fire "Here, please, stand by the fire for a few minutes".

Unfortunately for the young, rag-doll woman, not everyone in this enchanted castle was receptive of strangers and intruders. The least receptive of all was the lord of the castle himself. And already his eyes had focused on the uninvited guest. The bitter and angry master stood, hunched over and hidden in the darkness. But his beastly eyes were highly adaptive to the dark, so the shadows did not hinder him. He stared from a balcony, overlooking the entrance hall. He watched Sally enter, and make her way to the parlor. He stood still, but his eyes followed the intrusive woman's every movement. When she had approached the parlor door, the castle's lord had growled in disapproval, but his inhumanly growl was probably not loud enough to be noticed by Sally.
After the master had seen enough, he darted to his left with great speed and surprising dexterity, vanishing into the dark shadows completely.

Chuckling to herself, Belle nodded. "Yes, I am fond of it." And she was, she loved the castle and most of it's residents, in fact there was only really one particular person - or rather Beast - that she didn't quite see eye to eye with. He could be down right terrifying when he wanted to be and Belle shook the thought away quickly. She would have to let him know they had a guest soon if she wanted to avoid an undoubtedly rude scene which would take place if he found her here of his own accord, most probably winding up with the poor girl thrown back out into the rain again, or into the tower at the very worse. Setting the book down on the bale which held her tea-cup (she would find the page again later) Belle wandered over to the visitor, finally getting a good look at her strange form flickering in the firelight. She was incredibly pale and stitched together all over the place. Upon her body sat a long ragged patchwork dress and her woolen hair trailed in a read tide down her back. Why if Belle didn't know any better she would say the girl was a rag doll come to life, her eerie beauty standing out against the backdrop of the parlor. Weather or not she was in fact a living doll didn't matter though, she gave Belle a clam feeling and smiling a little shyly, the Beauty posed conversation. "They are wonderful aren't they. Do you like to read?" [/blockquote]

Overlapping the gentle crackling of the fire, Belle and the strange woman would hear a fast-paced, rhythmic, knocking tap, rather like footsteps, on the castle's exquisite marble floor. The 'footsteps' became louder and louder to the two; it was clear that somebody was making their way to the parlor. However, it wasn't human, whatever it was; the tapping of the 'feet' was far too light.
A short little carriage clock, not even a foot tall, was waddling across the floor, a satisfied grin on its prim-looking face. It was Cogsworth, one of the head butlers of the castle's extensive staff. The clock, looking rather like a stout little mustachioed man, was undergoing his evening examination of each and every room in the castle, making certain all was ship-shape and tidy and that all necessary chores had been accomplished. And, so far, the castle was in impressive shape. The layers of dust that had accumulated over the years were beginning to fade, thanks to the castle maids (currently animated feather dusters), and overall the establishment was well on its way to returning to its former glory. Cogsworth was most pleased - and he had hoped that, perhaps, this would cheer the Master up a little bit, as well.
The door to the parlor creaked open, and into the room the clock entered; immediately, he noticed who was currently occupying the room, and smiled astutely. "Ah, Belle!" he greeted the girl. "Splendid seeing you out and about," he casually went on, furthering his entry into the room to examine the bookshelves, ensuring that each book was in its proper place. "Reading again, are you? I must say, reading is a most excellent pastime during such dreary weather as this, ho ho."
The cheerful little clock was so preoccupied by his duties, he didn't even notice the uninvited guest making herself comfortable by the fire.

Belle continued to smile at the ragged maid for a few moments, wanting to assure her that the castle was friendly enough before the tip tapping of tiny feet caught her attention and at the pronouncement of a rather jovial and familiar voice, the village girl turned around to smile at the carriage clock now making his way about the room. "Cogsworth!" she called, her voice as enthused to see him, as it was to meet the new visitor. “Oh I’m glad you’re here”. Hurrying over to him, Belle stooped a little, her contented smile in its usual place in order to keep the slightly over reactive clock from seeing the visitor just yet. She knew Cogsworth wasn’t one to approve of castle visitors given it’s current situation but when one stumbled onto the place as accidentally as Belle had, it was probably a good idea that she softened the blow before alerting the butler to her presence. " “We have a guest”. The word were simple and as soft toned as she always was and willing him not to panic, she continued to watch him go about his duties unsure weather or not he had heard her speak. Cogsworth was as reserved as Lumiere, the castles suave candelabrum, was social and although had it been Lumiere before her, she would have expected an excited outburst, Cogsworth needed a little softening at first. He was rather harmless once he got over his initial prickliness and friendly when he wanted to be but first impressions were crucial with this clock. [/blockquote]

The clockwork butler continued to be absorbed in his duties, looking over the parlor and, particularly, the bookshelf, which seemed to be in fine order as usual. Only a single book was out of place so far - a book of fairy tales. Cogsworth assumed it was the book Belle was reading, so paid no mind.
Gently adjusting a copy of Shakespeare's Hamlet with his metallic appendages so that it was neatly in place, Cogsworth continued to listen to whatever Belle had to say despite being a little preoccupied. "A guest? Oh, yes, jolly good," he quickly responded... unusually agreeable about the revelation. Until it was evident that he was just so focused on his work that it took him a couple of seconds to comprehend just what Belle had said.
"... A guest?" Immediately, the little clock, a look of panic on his face, whirled around to see just whoever Belle was talking about - as the copy of Hamlet plopped back into its original disorderly position. He quickly made out the shape of a willowy young woman seated by the fire, but was too far away to make out her rather unusual features. No matter how calmly Belle may go about the issue, Cogsworth knew very well that the Master was most unreceptive of visitors of any kind to his castle; just the thought of his reaction was enough to kick the clock's gears into overdrive. And if he were indeed furious about it, Cogsworth would most certainly be to blame, he thought, for not doing something about it.
The clock was quite unsure of what to do, evidently nervous as he fidgeted, squirmed and exchanged apprehensive glances between Belle and the other young woman. The normal Cogsworth would not have tolerated this at all, and, ever loyal to the Master, would do all in his power to ensure the intruder left the premises... but he felt differently about things, now. Belle was such a kind and gentle young lady, and Cogsworth would feel like an outright cad for trying to boot out a guest that Belle had so lovingly allowed inside - duties or not, he had a conscience. Eventually, the clock locked its nervous eyes onto Belle's.
He cleared his throat. "B-Belle, you know very well that the Master does not receive uninvited guests so kindly..." he began, trying to be calm as Belle was about this and not wishing to upset her. At the very least, however, he was thankful it was not Lumiere who had found the girl - it would be much more difficult to get him to listen.
