You may not know the man by name, but you definitely know him by his voice, and his excellent Muppeteering. Jerry Nelson, who had performed many beloved Muppets such as The Count on Sesame Street, Emmett Otter, and Robin the Frog, died. He was 78. Like many of the best Muppeteers, Jerry had a distinctive voice but he infused radically different personalities into his characters, giving all of his creations amazing range. Some of his characters were meek and tender (Robin), while others were outrageous and hilarious (Lew Zealand). Jerry Nelson performed for the Jim Henson Company for decades. Jerry, alongside other noble Muppeteers, performed during one of Jim's memorial services. In 2004, Jerry retired from actively puppeteering, citing health reasons. He did, however, continue to voice his Sesame Street characters up to his death. He had an uncredited cameo in The Muppets (2011), providing the voice of the announcer in the climactic telethon. Rest in peace, Mr. Nelson. Source: www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/showtracker/la-et-st-sesame-street-puppeteer-jerry-nelson-dies-20120824,0,3396386.story Edit: I'm sorry! I didn't even say what he died of. The sources I'm reading say he died of various cancers and emphysema. Poor guy.
