QUACKAROONIE! My friend Cecilia alerted me about this.
DuckTales is an awesome show. DuckTales is also an awesome video game for the NES. I never dreamed this would be possible, but Capcom, Disney, and especially WayForward have allowed the unthinkable.
The DuckTales game is getting remastered, and will be released this summer.
The fusion of 2D sprites and 3D backgrounds and objects surprised me as hell at first. I can get used to it, though! I'm very glad to see this happen.
From what I gather, the game will be $15, a price that even Scrooge himself would find slightly acceptable (in a good way). It will release on the Xbox Live Arcade, the Wii U eShop, and the PlayStation 3 Network. Reports also indicate that voice actors will be present in this game (YES!), and this remastered game will have new features such as a tutorial, a museum, and the ability to swim through Scrooge's Money Bin pool. The original 8-bit songs will be remastered.
Now, let me see what the Junior Woodchucks Guidebook says about soiling yourself out of sheer ecstasy.

Sven from Capcom, on "Why remake DuckTales?"
"Frankly, you guys asked for it, here on Capcom-Unity. That's why.
About two and a half years ago I started working toward this with Disney because people here kept asking for it (and because I'm a fan too). About a year and a half ago I completed the general outlines of the deal. Disney was on board (and really excited). I then sold the whole concept of the project to Japan as we took it through greenlight.
Wayforward was actually Disney's suggestion given their creative director's LOVE for the original and after we did due diligence we totally agreed. Matt Bozon is a star and their experience with Shantae, Contra 4 and Mighty Switch Force made them the right choice. Jake K. ("Virt") on the music was also a deal sealer for us. They've been wonderful to work with and we've kept this title very underwraps, even internally. For example, I don't think anyone in Japan has even seen a build at any point so far (maybe until today :)).
As for the future, I'd like to not get ahead of ourselves. I'm thrilled at the fan response this morning but for the moment, we're going to stay focused on making this project a success. If it works, we can think about other opportunities later but let's not put the cart before the horse. :)"

Also, producer Rey Jimenez was asked about the possibility of more "Remastered Disney-Capcom games" if DuckTales is successful.
While nothing has been locked in, Jimenez said that the work Capcom put into getting approval from Disney to remaster the game could lead to future remastered releases of other classic Capcom-Disney projects. Those games include classics like Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck and Aladdin.
All of that will be dictated by how well this game is received though, Jimenez stressed.
What game would be next if Capcom were to do a second remastered release from their Disney days?
"In a purely hypothetical world," Jimenez said, "I think Chip n' Dale would be the next logical one. It makes sense because it's the next in the hierarchy."
