In reality, Fix-It Felix was created in a computer lab by a team of programmers. But his backstory is more interesting:
The corn-fed, mid-western son of Fix-It Felix, Sr., our boy grew up in America's heartland, taught at a young age to live honestly, work hard, and always do what's right. When he came of age, his dad retired, giving him a splendid hammer that had belonged to his family for generations. "Use it, son" said Felix Sr., to do good and help others."
Felix became an independent contractor, successful and well-respected. When he was called in to repair a new high-rise tower being systematically destroyed by Wreck-It Ralph, the backstory ends and Felix's real existence begins.
For forty years in the arcade, he happily played game after game, hopping up and down the side of the building, repairing all of Ralph's damage, and after closing time, partying with the Nicelanders.
Then came the day that Ralph went Turbo. Felix did his duty, going after his friend to bring him back to the game and repair any damage Ralph inflicted. In the course of that adventure, Felix met, fell in love with, and eventually married Sgt. Calhoun, the most dynamite gal he'd ever known. He and Ralph returned to life in their own arcade game, content with existence.
Until a freak lightning strike released them from the game console, catapulting Felix and friends into the real world where they exist as virtual humans, ordinary to all outward appearances, but composed, not of flesh and blood, but of pixels and code.
Felix and Calhoun adjusted to their new life easily, he setting up shop as a carpenter/contractor, and a highly successful one, owing to the uncanny skill and speed employed on all his jobs. He built them a house, ready to settle down, but the prevalence of crime in this world was disturbing; it seemed that the good guys didn't always win somehow. It was Calhoun's idea to join the ranks of crimefighters, and Felix adopted the code name of Captain Courageous to battle evil-doers wherever they may appear.
