Name: Archimedes
Age: Unknown, but probably middle-aged in owl years.
Is From: Presumably, a forest in the English countryside.
Species: Strix aluco (tawny owl)
Height: About a foot, give or take a few inches.
Weight: Only a pound.
Gender: Male
Likes: Whenever he's right (especially after bickering with Merlin); daytime naps; intellectual studies; taking nighttime flights (and maybe catching a mouse or two).
Dislikes: Whenever he's wrong; being bothered (especially while sleeping); Merlin's magic and "futuristic fiddle-faddle"; being teased, or assumed to be an average owl.
Powers: None, unless you count his great intellect, which, if not rivaling even Merlin's, is at least impressive for a bird.
Strengths: His aforementioned intelligence, wisdom and levelheadedness, which help in keeping the scatterbrained Merlin on course; the usual perks of being a bird, such as flight, for instance (which he respectfully treats as pure art, and not some "crude mechanical process"); sensitive to the feelings of others, even though he often tries to hide it.
Weaknesses: Short-tempered, often cranky, and sensitive; somewhat haughty, often viewing himself as smarter than others (which is usually true, but rude, nonetheless...); incredibly stubborn.
Allied with: Merlin and Arthur, primarily. Given time, he can warm up to most anybody that he can tolerate long enough.
Mortal Enemy: Madame Mim, or anybody else who is a threat to his companions.
History and Bio: Archimedes' life story is pretty vague; it's still unknown how he and Merlin became such inseperable companions. The most likely explanation is that Merlin took in a lost young owlet as a familiar, took care of him, and, with (or without?) the help of magic, gave the bird intelligence rivaling that of most humans. Whatever the story is, Archimedes has become close friends with Merlin (although he rarely likes to admit or show that), and isn't intent on leaving him anytime soon.
Beneath the grouchy and stubborn exterior of Archimedes, there lies a likeable and even compassionate personality. Most recently, this rarely-seen aspect of the bird has been exposed (to some extents) around Arthur, a young boy whom Merlin has appointed himself a tutor of. Another young student of Merlin's, Alice, has gained the suspicious old bird's trust, who even enjoys teaching the children himself whenever Merlin is unable to.
Voice Actor: Junius Matthews (who also gave his voice to Rabbit in the Winnie the Pooh shorts)
Movie: The Sword in the Stone (1963)
