Name: Carl Fredricksen
Age: 78
Nationality: American
Species: Human
Height: Below average
Weight: A good build for an elderly man
Gender: Male
Likes: The treasured memories of his late wife, Ellie; being respected; animals; rousing serials of a past time
Dislikes: Disrespectful people; flash dancing; evil poachers; rap music
Normal Attire: A white buttoned shirt; a bow tie; brown pants with a matching coat; leather shoes; a belt and suspenders; thick, black-rimmed glasses
Powers and Strengths: Carl does not have supernatural or phenomenal powers, although he can be impressively spry and agile when the situation is dire. He is also very durable for an elderly man.
His primary occupation for decades was as a balloonist/balloon salesman, and because of this he is very knowledgeable about balloons and helium. He can also be cunning and, when he needs to be, bluntly underhanded. He possesses a life's worth of intelligence and common sense, and he works great with his hands. He has, after all, figured out how to make a house fly!
Weaknesses: Although initially polite and mild-mannered, he became self-centered and grumpy after the death of his wife, but thankfully that is no longer the case. Now he is once again very compassionate and friendly, especially to his friends. Therefore, the people he cares about can be a weak spot. Also, although he is athletic and strong for an old man, he is nevertheless old, and so he sometimes suffers common aging traits (sometimes his back gives out, etc.). He wears dentures, and he has a hearing aid. He is computer illiterate.
Allies: Dug; Russel; Ellie (in spirit)
History: Carl Fredricksen is a man in his late seventies. He spent nearly his whole life with a woman whom he loved, Ellie. Sadly, Ellie has passed away, leaving a very disgruntled and emotionally withdrawn Carl behind.
However, an adventure with a few new friends (such as Dug) taught Carl not to dwell on the past and instead focus on the present, and anticipate the future. He is doing just that in Fantasmic Kingdom, and he's ready to live the rest of his life by having adventures, and spending time with his friends.
Since his adventure in South America, Carl has lived in a lavish dirigible that used to belong to the famed yet amoral adventurer, Charles Muntz (voiced by Christopher Plummer).
Voice Actor: Ed Asner
Carl Fredricksen was an old man with renewed life in Pixar's tenth film, Up (2009).
