It was a gorgeous day; the sun was bright and illuminated the jovial land below. It was a clear day, and the white, fluffy clouds that were in the sky avoided obscuring the sun. It was warm, but there was still a gentle breeze to avoid unbearable heat. Succinctly, it was a wonderful day to be outside.
It was also on this day that a dirigible arrived. It approached a clearing just outside of a town, and descended until the occupants could step onto the ground.
The first to set foot on the ground was an old man in his late seventies, although the vim and curiosity in his eyes suggested that he could last another ten or so years. He wore a white buttoned shirt, brown pants with belt, leather shoes, and a brown overcoat. Resting on his bulbous nose were rectangular spectacles with thick, black rims, and on the top of his head were an aviator cap and goggles. If one looked closely at his right hand, one could notice a gold wedding ring on his ring finger. Despite this man's age, he had a full head of white hair (although this wasn't really noticeable when he wore the aviator cap).
A pleasant smile was fixed on the old man's face, and he looked around after he stepped out of the dirigible. "Quite a sight, huh?" he asked aloud, as if he expected someone to be by his side. "Never been here before." He skimmed his bespectacled eyes along the horizon, though the village was definitely the most enticing landmark here.

*Ariel had surfaced from the water just as the dirigible had set down. Her eyes widened, surprised, as she had never before seen something like that in her entire life. Fascinated with the gigantic silver...bubble, she got closer, to the flying machine, swimming under the docks and looking up over them, but not close enough to be noticed.*
Oh my gosh...it...it's amazing; it's like a giant silver....bubble! I would've thought Scuttle would've talked about these long ago...hm, I bet they're new.
[OOC= sorry, crappy post. She's whispering to herself, if it's not obvious. ^^]

"Oh boy!" chimed a very enthusiastic (and possibly, um... dim-sounding) voice.
The second passenger bounced out of the dirigible and up to the side of the old man... and this second passenger was, apparently, a dog, a golden retriever. He looked like any dog would, and acted like any dog would, romping around this new area and smelling all of the wonderful new smells... but it didn't seem to sound like any other dog.
"Where are we, where are we? Wow, this place is so big! And there is lots of grass and sky and so many smells! I love these smells!"
It would seem that the dog was speaking, although his mouth made no movements, as it was hung open in a jovial pant. The dog was now on its back, squirming and rolling around in the grass in delight.

The old man's eyes lit up with delight when he heard the approaching dog. He didn't need to turn his head to look at his companion because he knew the dog would be by his side. Sure enough, the golden retriever frolicked around the old man in energetic elation.
The old man looked down to the golden retriever and bent as far as he could to stroke the dog's belly. "Don't know, Dug," the dog's master replied. Still petting Dug, the old man turned his head upward to look out into the ocean. "But it sure is beautiful." The old man looked down at his dog once more, and saw a stick next to him. He grinned and picked up said stick.
He stood upright (though his back cracked as he straightened upward) and he waved the stick above the jovial dog's face. "Hey, Dug? Look what I got!" The old man turned and randomly flung the stick away, obviously to start a game of fetch. The stick landed below the pier, onto a patch of sand that coincidentally was very near the eavesdropping mermaid.
