Name: Shere Khan
Age: Unknown; presumably middle-aged for a tiger
Species: Tiger
Gender: Male
Nationality: Indian
Alignment: Evil
Attire: Not applicable
Abilities: Hunting; combat; intimidation; singing; superb eyesight and hearing (better than that of a human's)
Weakness: Fear of fire and guns
Accessories: Retractable claws
Constant Companion: None
Enemies: Mankind; Baloo; Bagheera; Mowgli
Character Information: Sophisticated and cool as he is lethal and ferocious. Shere Khan is a tiger with a hatred of mankind. It doesn't matter if a man poses a threat or not; if Shere Khan finds out that a human of any age is lost or living unprotected in the jungle, the evil tiger will go out of his way to hunt and kill the human. He has no reason to kill humans other than pure intolerance and hatred.
Shere Khan, seen here utilizing his powers of intimidation on Kaa the python.
But humans aren't the only creatures who fear Shere Khan; almost every animal in the Indian jungle knows and trembles at the very mention of the name Shere Khan. The tiger is perfectly aware of this. He is evil and terrifying, yet he hardly ever addresses his reputation... unless he meets a foolishly delusional victim who tries to play brave.
Although Shere Khan presents himself as sophisticated and calm, his patience is not limitless. His voice is deep and sultry (possibly sexy), and he has a great singing voice of the lowest vocal range (bass).
Shere Khan may be fierce and evil, but he has a glaring weakness: he fears fire and man's gun.
Voice Actor: George Sanders (1967 film); Tony Jay (replacement voice, until his death)
George Sanders with Shere Khan.
Shere Khan was the most terrifying entity in the jungle--and he was perfectly aware of it--in Walt Disney's The Jungle Book (1967).
