Strengths:
Esmeralda has her sharp intellect. She is also quite physically fit and tough from her upbringing of always needing to outsmart guards and soliders, as well as being very agile from the years of dancing. She also has a tendency to become like a big sister, or mother bear to those she feels that need her protection, which came from her life role as the gypsies' princess/queen.
She's not one to go looking for a fight, mostly tries to stay hidden. But if she sees someone is being harassed/treated cruelly, then she'll spare no thought in standing up for them. Being judged most of her life for being 'different' she tries to look at the person inside.

History:
Esmeralda was born as the gypsies' princess in the court of miracles. Her elder brother Clopin was promised as to be king and take the title from their father when he grew. The title of royality meant the position as the protector of the gypsies. In her young life Esmeralda had a fairly happy childhood. She was surrounded by a loving family of outcasts. But the everyday prejudice and racism made it difficult. Ducking the guards and forced to live in the ouskirts of Paris.
Once night while her parents were trying to traffic more gypsy refugees into Paris, they were ambushed by Frollo's guards and she never saw them again. It broke her heart but she wasn't one to be easily defeated by tragety. It wasn't how her mama and papa raised her.
As time went on, Esmeralda matured from a happy little girl, into a beautiful, bold, and sassy young woman.
When she was seventeen Esmeralda found a baby goat that had been left behind by a circus. Esmeralda coudln't bare the thought of leaving the creature behind. So she took him home and taught his how to dance as part of her act and peirced his ear as a way of saying they'd always be together.
The Festival of Fools was hands down Esmeralda's favorite day of the year. Little did she know her life would make a dramatic change. It all began that morning. Esmeralda had been dancing in the streets with her goat. She was almost arrested by the palace guards, wrongfully accused of stealing. She broke free of them, and thanks to Captain Pheobus, who served as a distraction for the guards long enough for her to flee completely
Later on in the day, The Festival of Fools began. Esmeralda's dancing was one of the main attractions. She loved to entertain, and even taunted Frollo when she saw the oppertunity. When it was time to crown the King of Fools, Esmeralda pulled several men on stage including Quasimodo since she thought he was wearing a mask. But once it is revealed that he was the bellringer of Notre Dame, she felt awful for her mistake. But Clopin encouraged the celebrating to go on. At first Quasi was treated like a king, until a guard threw a tomato and the flood gates of cruelty were opened. Esmeralda came out of her tent seeing this, feeling even worse then she had moments ago. She went to free him. When Frollo ordred her not to, she openly defide him in front of the crowd. With her quick thinking and swift moves she managed to evade the guards. After the fight she disappeared into the church
In the Cathedral she met Phoebus once again. She believed he was sent to arrest her and after dueling she found that he wasn't like the other soliders. She grew angry when Frollo appeared feeling she had been tricked. The archdeacon came an scolded Frollo saying he was not to harm her. Frollo reveals some of his true intentions and warned her that if she left she would be arrested.
Not long after Esmeralda spotted Quasimodo and followed him to the bell tower. He showed Esmeralda around his home and his talent for carving figurines out of wood. They talked for a while. She showed him that he had a lot of goodness within him and that was more valuble then physical beauty. He was falling in love with her. Meanwhile Frollo struggled with his 'unholy' and hateful thoughts of Esmeralda. He then learned of Esmeralda's escape then set out to destroy all of Paris until he found her. Phoebus was ordered by Frollo to kill a small family by way of buring them inside their home.
Esmeralda distracted Frollo by throwing a rock at his horse to throw him off. Phoebus attempted to run away on Frollo's horse but was struck with an arrow and fell into the river. Esmeralda then jumped in the river to save him.
Esmeralda brought Phoebus to the belltower where he could be safe. Esmeralda was still unaware of Quasimodo's feelings for her. While she was tending to Pheobus' wounds she shared a kiss with Phoebus, feeling that she was falling in love with the solider. She wasn't about to deny it. She saw a soul mate in him who shared her passion for justice and life. Quasimodo saw and was devistated, still unknown to her.
Esmeralda rushed back to the Court of Miracles leaving Phoebus in Quasimodo's care. After Frollo came to Quasimodo telling him that he knew where the gypsies were hidding. Quasimodo and Phoebus worked together and found the location of the Court of Miracles to warn the gypsies. The bell ringer and solider were mistaken for spies. Gypsy law required that spies are to be hung for the protection of the others. Esmeralda stepped forward and stopped the exicution, telling them that they are friends. Frollo appeared just as Phoebus was warning the gypsies and captured them. Esmeralda was setenced to be burned on the stake in front of the church.
The next day Esmeralda was tied to the stake where the rest of the gypsies and Pheobus were caged like animals. Frollo gave her a chance to live by giving herself to him. She answered by spitting in his eye. Frollo set the wood on fire after she rejected him. Quasimodo, who was chained in the bell tower broke free to save her from the flames. In the meantime Pheobus led the gypsies in a battle against the guards.
Quasi brought her to safety where Frollo comes attempting to kill Quasi while moaned believing she was dead. Quasimodo ran with Esmeralda. She woke up not long after to help the in the fight. Esmeralda was barely hanging onto Quasimodo and Frollo is attempting to kill them both. The ledge he was standing on broke, before he could strike her neck with his sword. Frollo was sent to his eternal damnation. The battle was over. Quasimodo accepted that Esmeralda's heart was with Pheobus. Esmeralda still loved Quasimodo but like a brother she had never known.
