“Lumiere’s right,” agreed Mickey. “You don’t need to have an entertainment act to provide a good time.”
While he enjoyed his work hosting shows at the House of Mouse, Mickey knew that there was more that attracted customers to this place than that! Those like Donald, Tony, Joe and himself aimed to please the company that chose to dine at their establishments, but all that Pete seemed to care about was making a profit. He’d let just about anybody in if it meant money in his pocket.

Donald thought the same as Mickey. He folded his arms on his chest as he looked to the mouse's face.
"But Pete doesn't agree," said the duck with worried eyes. "How are we gonna satisfy him this time? He wants spots! What kind'a spots?"

Both Tony and Joe smiled when they were reassured by Lumiere and Mickey, but Donald's pessimism removed their smiles.
Tony rubbed his chin as he exchanged looks to the candelabra and animals while thinking. "I'm a'not sure about spots..."
Joe spoke up. "But we play'a music!"
Tony looked to his partner and then back to their new friends. "Ah, yes!" He clasped his hands together. "Musica!"

With only the power that an animator can bring, Cruella De Vil suddenly zipped into the room, standing before the gentlemen and anthropomorphic characters.
"Spots?" she repeated eagerly after miraculously hearing Donald's statement. "Now that's the kind of entertainment I could go for." The woman rubbed her hands together, "It's absolutely delicious!'

Donald stared at Cruella with an obviously perplexed look when she zipped to the gathering. "How the heck can a woman like spots so much?" he asked openly. He didn't expect an answer, of course.

"Ah, music, yes, yes..." Lumiere said softly, when Joe announced their talents. The candelabrum looked so deep in thought that one could almost see the wheels turning inside his wax head.
"I've got it!" but his brilliant idea was cut off when Cruella burst into the room. Crossing his arms, he wore an annoyed look on his face while she jabbered on and it took a moment for him to collect himself and politely say,
"I am sorry, Madam, but zhe House of Mouse is closed for zhe evening."

Mickey was just as surprised as Donald to see Cruella back in the room- especially after she left the establishment in such a huff.
"Er- Lumiere's right, Cruella. We're just closing up now. But you're more than welcome to come back any other night... as long as we're open, of course," he added with a small chuckle.

Cruella thrust her nose up into the air when Mickey spoke, ignoring Donald and Lumiere completely.
'Only if there's spots, darling.' She pressed her cigarette holder, which held an already lit cigarette, between her lips and blew out a ring of smoke. 'I wasn't kidding about that, you know.' With an air of arrogance, she hitched her shoulders, causing the fur coat to slide down her body, sitting perfectly, before walking out. She couldn't care less about the fact that she had tapped the ashes on her cigarette on to the carpet either.

Donald looked at the cigarette's ash with disgust. Though he himself was an occasional smoker (mainly for celebrations), the duck had more etiquette than that.
He looked up and snapped is fingers loudly, succeeding in getting the attention of an anthropomorphic broom, the same kind of cleaning brooms seen in Fantasia. He pointed to Cruella's grabage. "Clean that up."
The broom did so, and Donald returned his attention to the small circle.

Both Tony and Joe visibly shared the general consensus; they seemed relieved that such a woman, who was as obnoxious as her cigarette smoke reeked, departed.
Tony invited himself to resume the conversation he and Lumiere started, before being interrupted by Cruella. "You'a love music?" He grinned; he knew he was right because the very word 'music' rendered the candelabra in a trance.
Joe wasn't following his friend; he was too occupied with watching the amazing anthropomorphic broom clean the ash. It would've taken a somewhat raised voice to regain his attention.

"But yes, I love music," Lumiere stated brightly, returning to the original conversation. "For what is life without it, no? And you two have given me a brilliant idea!" He hopped and turned towards Mickey and Donald in midair. "Why not hold an audition? For fresh talent! A perfect opportunity for amateurs and anyone wishing to further their career."

Donald folded his arms on his chest and his eyebrows furrowed and his pupils rose as he thought. After a quick moment's worth of thinking, he returned his gaze to Mickey.
"If they're willing to wear spots," he suggested, "sure. But can we really find new talent so fast?"

Joe was more attentive at this point, and he looked to Tony, who looked to Joe, and the two grinned simultaneously.
"Mickey," Tony said when he looked down to the House's leading mouse, "Joe and'a I will audition... if'a we can."
Joe nodded to Mickey in agreement.

A hopeful look flitted across Lumiere's face. "It's somezhing to start with! We could hold an open call for everyone else." Lumiere held his breath and the flame on top of his head shot up. "And I could always do a few tricks myself in between. Provided I'm not busy working of course."

Donald watched the broom finish cleaning up Cruella's mess and shuffled off. The duck, however, heard what Lumiere said, and he exchanged looks to the anthropomorphic candelabra and Mickey.
"Okay!" he exclaimed with not-so-often optimism. "Then what're we waiting for? Let's make some fliers!" His arms were no longer folded on his chest, but they were up in the air to express excitement.

"All right," Mickey said with a laugh at Donald's enthusiasm. "But we need to talk to Minnie first to find out how much this is all going to cost us." Minnie Mouse was in charge of finances here and the last thing he needed was Pete blowing up at her for reasons involving expenses. He would just use it as another excuse to try and shut down the House of Mouse.
"But before we do that," he gestured to Joe and Tony, "If you two wouldn't mind, I'd like to hear ya play something now if you've got the time. Maybe we could squeeze you in to tomorrow night's act."

"Yes, please!" encouraged Lumiere, eager to see what these Italians could do. "The stage awaits!" As if on cue, a spotlight turned on in center stage. Lumiere laughed. "What did I tell you, mon amies!"

"Ooh, yes," Tony replied happily, but he seemed somewhat reluctant. "But we need'a our instruments. I, the'a accordion, and Joe, he's-a mandolin."
Joe pointed behind him with a thumb, to the front doors. "I could'a run back to Tony's, quickly," he suggested. He was ready to begin a brisk trot, if given the word.

"No, no, we get our'a instruments," Joe said. Immediately after speaking he turned and hurried off, presumably to run to Tony's, grab the instruments and return.
Tony chuckled and shrugged exaggeratedly to his new friends. "Sentiment'a value," he stated.
A few minutes later Joe returned, but with no instruments in hand. "Tony, I'a need the keys," he said while extending his hand.
Tony was obviously annoyed by this. "Joe!" he raised his voice. "I break'a your face!" He shoved his large hand into a pocket, swiftly pulled out his keyring and pressed it to Joe's hand.
Joe left and returned just as he did earlier, this time with an accordion and a mandolin. He handed the accordion to an elated Tony as soon as he returned to the group. "Okay, here you go."
Tony promptly readied his accordion. He and Joe, as they would soon show Mickey and company, were experts with their musical instruments.

Donald folded his arms on his chest again and repeatedly tapped his right webbed foot on the floor as he waited for Joe on both occasions. When Joe and Tony had their instruments, Donald looked to Mickey with a inexpressive face.
"The auditions better be good," he said, "or else we're sunked."
The statement wasn't so much pessimistic as it was honest.

Lumiere winked at Tony after Joe ran out. He might not be a musician, but he understood how awkward it could feel while performing without one's own equipment. When Joe ran back with the instruments, Lumiere hopped up on to a bar of wood between two chair legs and then up on to the seat of the chair. From there he made one final leap on to the table, ensuring that he would have a good view of the performance.

Mickey approached the table Lumiere was at and pulled back two chairs for Donald and him. "I think it'll be okay, Donald, I've got a feeling about these fellahs. We can worry about the others when we need to." He gave his friend a reassuring smile and after sitting down, indicated to Joe and Tony that they were ready with a gesture of his hand.

Tony began his accordion, but he spoke normally while he played the song's opening. "We'a play a romantic song. It's a called Bella Notte, and we'a play thees'a one to blooming loves."
Joe strummed his mandolin while nodding. "Okay, here we'a go!"
Tony was the primary singer, and like his speaking voice his singing voice was rich and deep. However, Joe did join in during the chorus and the closing. Regardless, the two played their instruments with intensity and skill; it was obvious they've played the accordion and mandolin their whole lives.
Oh, this is the night, it's a beautiful night And we call it bella notte Look at the skies, they have stars in their eyes On this lovely bella notte
So take the love of your loved one You'a need it about this time To keep from falling like a star When you make that dizzy climb
Oh, this is the night, and the heavens are right On this lovely bella notte
This is the night, it's a beautiful night And we call it bella notte Look at the skies, they have stars in their eyes On this lovely bella notte
Side by side with your loved one You'll find enchant'ament a'here The night will weave its magic spell When the one you love is near
For this is the night, and the heavens are right On this lovely bella notte
The two finished their signature song with a sweet, slow ending. After the song Tony and Joe looked to their small audience.
"Thank you," said Tony. He and Joe bowed.

Donald's apparent doubts vanished while he listened to the romantic tune. He was so enthralled that he slightly wished that Daisy was there to hold his hand over a candlelit table. In fact, as he listened his eyes became misty, and he felt his heart aflutter; it reminded him of the time he fell in love with Dora Luz, before he met Daisy. He wasn't this moved by a song since "You Belong to My Heart."
When the Italian duo finished, Donald was brought back to reality and he clapped loudly. "Bravo!" he squawked. As he clapped his eyes trailed to Lumiere and Mickey, wondering if there was a consensus.

The lyrics, the melody, everything sounded so perfect and Mickey closed his eyes as he took it all in. The mouse was slightly disappointed when the song finished, but his enjoyment of the piece overrode this and he jumped to his feet and clapped enthusiastically.

A slow and soft smile appeared on Lumiere’s face as the song progressed, though he immediately enjoyed the romantic melody. The candelabrum had always loved being the center of attention and putting on show stopping performances, even if he wasn’t supposed to be on stage, but this was one spotlight he didn’t mind staying out of. Tony and Joe sounded like professionals and he certainly had no reason to step in and enhance their show, because they seemed to be doing exceptionally well on their own. When the song ended, Lumiere raised his spindly arms, bringing his tea light hands together in the air and shook them in a gesture of victory.
“Bravo, monsieurs, bravo! Magnificent performance!”

After the boy, the two smiled up to their small audience.
"Oh, thank'a you!" exclaimed a happy Tony. He brought his hands together in flattery. "Thank you'a so much!"
Joe was equally flattered. He bowed slightly again and chuckled lightly. "Thank you! We've'a practiced, yeah?"
The two exchanged happy grins.

Mickey was more than certain that Donald was going to agree with him, based on the thunderous applause the duck gave, so he made the executive decision to give the Italian duo the-go-ahead.
“Well, fellahs! I think you’re more than qualified to play at the House of Mouse! Would you two be willing to play again tomorrow night?” He desperately hoped they would be able to fit a performance into their schedules, because he truly believed that they could capture Pete’s interest in a good way!
