This is a very short, very silly quickie I whipped up almost two full years ago, on September 19, 2008. It was written for then-Hercules's role-player, but I've decided to post it here. It's not so relevant now because FK no longer has a Hercules, and therefore Alice's close friendship with Hercules is nonexistent, but what the hell!
Hercules, attired as a Victorian gentleman (complete with a top hat), was being held prisoner in a cell made of stone. He was in the dimly-illuminated underground cavern of an evil creature. This creature was capable of speech (although she hissed whenever she pronounced S’s), and she had a human-like head with green skin and hair of a darker shade of green. And though the upper half of her body was similar to that of a woman’s, she was far more of a snake than a human. The bulk of her body was reminiscent of a serpent, and she slithered as she moved. This creature, the Snake Princess, was the reason the hapless gentleman Hercules was a prisoner in the cell.
“You look confident,” the Snake Princess said to him.
“That is because I know you will be defeated,” said Hercules in a bizarrely refined manner. “Alice will prevail, mark my words!”
“You fool,” the Snake Princess said to him. Her yellow eyes focused on her prisoner. “I captured you in the first place so I could lure her. You’re one of her best friends, and I know she would walk to the end of the earth just to rescue you. And once she arrives I will prove your wrong: I will snap her neck, and devour her whole! And then she will never interfere with my affairs again! I simply can’t wait to destroy that God-blessed child!”
“She may come, just as you said,” Hercules said, “but she would never lose to you. I know her; you are just being pretentious.”
“Silence at once!” the Snake Princess ordered. “She comes!” Sensing her opponent approaching, she turned at the direction from where she would arrive. As it turned out, her prediction was correct, for the child warrior Alice stepped into the dim illumination, a determined expression in her face.
Alice was attired as Grecian hero, with a breastplate and a blue cape attached, a skirt, a black headband, and athletic sandals. With her hands she clutched a sword and a shield. “Why have you taken that man, Serpent?” Alice asked aloud to her adversary, standing away from her. “He is of no concern to you.”
“Alice!” Hercules shouted with enthusiasm. “I knew you would come for me!”
“He is nothing more but bait,” the Snake Princess replied. “And I will dispose of him after I am through with you.” The Snake Princess hissed. “Prepare to die, child warrior!” She opened her mouth widely, revealing fanged incisors that dripped venom.
Alice noticeably prepared herself for combat. “I believe I will rid the world of you,” she said. “You have spread wickedness long enough.” The Snake Princess immediately sprung after Alice, and the girl jumped to a side to avoid the attack.
Hercules watched from inside of his cell, placing his hands on his cheeks. “Oh, Ms. Alice!” he daintily cried. “Do be careful!”
Alice stood up but the Snake Princess lashed at her with the back of her tail. The tail struck Alice, and the force not only made Alice inadvertently fling her sword, but also propelled her to a wall of the cavern. She grunted as she hit the wall and tumbled to the ground. She quickly rose and saw the Snake Princess slither after her with full speed. With her shield still in her grasp, she held her ground until the Snake Princess bared her fangs and lunged after her. Alice then slammed the shield against the opponent’s face with great force. The Snake Princess toppled to the ground, and Alice delivered another blow to her head with the shield. After that she dropped the shield so she could run faster, dashing after her sword, as fast as she could.
“Alice!” Hercules screamed. “Look out behind you!”
Before Alice could grab her sword it was knocked away by the Princess’s tail, which quickly wrapped around Alice and tightly grasped her, akin to a boa constrictor. Alice squirmed in hopes to break herself free from the clutch of the Snake Princess.
The Snake Princess brought her face to Alice’s, chuckling evilly. “Is that all?” the evil creature asked mockingly. She tightened her hold of Alice, which caused the girl to wince in pain. “You silly girl; even if you are blessed by the gods, you are still mortal. And now nothing can save you!” She tightened her grip even further, laughing.
“Alice!” Hercules screamed. “Don’t forfeit! You mustn’t give in!”
Though Alice was in great pain, she managed to giggle, although with some force. “The (ugh) battle is not finished,” she said to her opponent.
“What?” the Snake Princess asked with confusion. At that moment she was pounced by a red panther, which thankfully resulted in her releasing her grasp on Alice. Alice untangled herself and slipped from the snake’s skin, coughing and regaining her breath. Meanwhile, the panther with red fur and blue eyes growled and swiped the Snake Princess’s face. Alice then rushed to her sword and faced the panther and the Snake Princess.
The Snake Princess hissed and shoved the panther away from her. She stood and glared at the big, red cat. “What is this?” she scowled.
“Why,” Alice said with a smirk, clutching her sword, “that is Dinah, of course!” The panther briefly dropped the intimidating posture to smile to her master. Then Alice nodded and rushed to the Snake Princess. The Princess turned and saw Alice rapidly approaching, screaming. Her scream was quickly silence, though, for with one great swoop, Alice decapitated the Snake Princess, the force propelling said head far away. The headless body’s muscles twitched and squirm involuntarily as green blood gushed from the neck.
Hercules shielded his eyes after witnessing the gruesome sight. “Goodness!”
Alice sighed and sheathed her sword. After forcibly exhaling in the corpse’s direction, the big cat approached her master and brushed her face along her. Alice smiled and kissed Dinah’s head. “Thank you, Dinah. You helped me greatly.”
“Oh, Alice!” Hercules cried happily. “I simply knew you would succeed!”
Alice hurried to the cell and promptly tore off several bars with her immense strength, freeing her older friend from the confines of his prison. After she threw away the handful of bars, she was greeted by a tight hug from Hercules. Alice returned the embrace, pressing her head against his chest. “Hercules,” she said warmly, “I am so delighted that you are safe!”
Hercules removed himself from the hug and knelt to her savior’s level. “Thank you for rescuing me. You did a good thing, destroying that evil creature.”
“You’re welcome,” Alice replied with a nod. “Indeed, the Serpent Tyrant is dead. But… it is not me alone whom you should thank, Hercules.” Alice jerked her head to motion to Dinah. Dinah sat upright, her tail moving with apparent happiness. She grinned to Hercules.
Hercules stood and approached the big cat, stroking her head. “And thank you, too, Dinah!”
Alice smiled as she watched the two, and then she stretched. Another day’s work has ended in the life of Alice, the blessed warrior child.
Hercules gasped suddenly and removed his pocket watch from his Victorian waistcoat. “Oh, dear!” he cried.
Alice’s lips parted. “What’s the matter, Hercules?”
Hercules looked to Alice with shock. “It’s time for you to wake up!”
Indeed, Alice woke in her bed, late at night. She wasn’t in armor similar to what Hercules’s normally wears, but rather her nightgown. Alice quickly realized that her intense battle with the Snake Princess was just a dream. She turned her head and saw Dinah asleep on the pillow next to hers.
Alice looked down to her hands and then clenched them into fists, bringing them together as if she was holding a sword. She raised her fists high and brought a proud, warrior-like expression to her face… that was quickly ceased after Alice giggled slightly, shaking her head in amusement. She couldn’t wait to tell Mr. Hercules about this dream of reversed roles.
Alice rested her head on her pillow, smiling and closing her eyes. “A good hero deserves a good night’s rest,” she whispered to herself. She fell asleep soon afterward.
