Rumors and speculation of a new DVD edition of the classic Disney film have been rampant for well over a year. Now those rumors can be put to rest. From UltimateDisney.com, a name you can trust! Disney has announced a 2-disc "Special Un-Anniversary Edition DVD" of their original 1951 animated Alice in Wonderland for release on March 30, 2010 while Tim Burton's new take on the story plays in theaters. New bonus features include the deleted scene "Pig and Pepper" considered in the 1930s, and the featurette "Reflections on Alice." It seems safe to assume that The Great Mouse Detective, previously scheduled for re-release on the same day, will be delayed.Below is the new DVD edition's cover. That sucks about The Great Mouse Detecive! I really hope it doesn't get pushed back too far. As for what I think about the new Alice in Wonderland DVD, well, I still wish it was a Platinum Edition like the rumors from back when were true. But as long as this DVD is getting new bonus material (which is so far confirmed), I'll get this in a heartbeat. Of course, I wish it would include the myriad of bonus features found in the jam-packed Laserdisc edition, but I highly doubt that will happen. It's a pity, too, because there were so many deleted songs, it's almost scary. As from an economical standpoint, yeah, re-releasing the movie in the same month as Burton's film is a no-brainer. I'm not surprised in that regard!
