Saleen was tired of her little haven under the sea. Sure, it was great living in enchanted waters, but when you have elemental powers the excitement of magic dies down after a while. The elemental sat at her dressing table (which was made out of a suitable looking underwater rock formation) with her elbow propped up and her chin planted lazily in the palm of her hand. Her devoted squid, Armand, was busy brushing her long red hair while Saleen unappreciatively tapped her fingernails against the stone table. Armand swept her hair up into a rather outlandish do and strategically placed seashells throughout it. As he proudly looked up on it, Saleen swam away from her seat and shook her head, her tresses falling free and destroying all the hard work the squid put in.
‘I’m bored, Armand!’ the sea witch declared. ‘I’m tired of just swimming around here, while you do nothing but play with my hair.’ The squid looked highly offended at this comment, but that did not seem to bother Saleen. ‘I need a vacation. I need to go somewhere fun, somewhere new.’ She pushed her beauty ointments off of the dresser. ‘Not this boring old dump.’ The elemental’s tail swished gracefully back and forth as she swam in circles trying to think of the perfect destination.
‘I’ve got it!’ she squealed delightedly. ‘I’ll go to Atlantica.’ With a hand on her hip she revealed, ‘Surprisingly, that’s one place I’ve never been before. Didn’t really feel like interacting with non-magical merfolk.’ She hitched a shoulder. ‘Ah well. Could be fun!’
Armand nodded his large head in agreement, picked up the brush and swiftly swam to Saleen’s side.
‘Oh, you can’t come,’ Saleen told him nonchalantly. Seeing the heart broken look on his face, the witch wrapped her arms around him and cooed, ‘I need you to stay here and guard my lair. You’re soooo strong, Armand, I don’t think I could trust anyone else to protect it.’
That remark gave the squid an ego boost and he puffed up his chest, flexing all his arms just to show her how strong he really was! Now that Armand was content, Saleen broke away from him.
‘That’s my boy!’
Out of the corner of her eye, she spied a dolphin and whistled for it, by bringing two fingers two her lips. When the dolphin turned in her direction, Saleen swam up to it. ‘Hi, Sweetie! You’re going to give me a ride. Hope you don’t mind!’
She pushed the palm of her hand against the dolphin’s side and at once a change seemed to wash over it, almost like it was under a spell. Saleen leaned back, throwing her hand over shoulder, waving goodbye to Armand as the dolphin began to swim for Atlantica.
