Disney Princess Designer Doll: Ariel Review
To be honest, I wasn’t sure about this line at first. I was dreading the thought of the dolls not matching up to their beautiful concept art. Unfortunately, the case is maybe true for one or two of them, which is a shame for the people who are fans of them the most. I was over-joyed however, to see that a certain red-headed princess was still as beautiful in doll form. I was really nervous to buy her as soon a possible, though, even though I probably shouldn't have worried as much really. PackagingSince I bought Ariel online, she came with a lot of packaging, and I mean A LOT, haha. The box she came in was quite big and I honestly wasn't expecting the doll to be so tall either, but then again I didn't really take her size into account. Following the cardboard boxes, I would say that the packaging that comes with the actual set is just as beautiful as the doll. There was a cover over box - on top of it was: 'Disney Princess Designer Collections Ariel' On the sides of the paper box were three different photos of the classic Ariel concept art pose, which looked just lovely and as an added bonus on the fourth side was the ideas/designs drawings of what the designers had wanted the dress/hair to look like for Ariel, complete with a final drawing of the doll. The box she was in herself was surprising - it was a perspex case, obviously to keep the dust and stuff out and off the doll, quite thick stuff, too! The bottom was adorned with a design and held Ariel's name in place with a gold background. On the very bottom, certificate of Authenticity. Outfit and hairNow for the doll itself - WOW. I may be biased, but I think Ariel looks stunning here - really beautiful indeed. I love everything about the doll, it was well worth the price! Her dress, similar to the art, is a number of layers of ruffled blue material, different shades, and ends on the floor of the case. The bodice is a sea-blue, studded with diamante rhinestones. The gloves are white, studded with similar rhinestones - the blue of them compliments the dress well - if they were just plain white I wouldn't have been as thrilled. There's like a flower tassel in the middle of the dress, too. I really love Ariel's hair - it's big, just like in her movie, with some of it piled on top of her head, with the rest flowing free [well, at free as it can be in a box!], complete with a lovely golden shell accessory, studded with light blue, yep, you've guessed it, rhinestones. Her make-up is mainly pale pink lips [my only sort-of criticism - I would've loved them movie-Ariel-red!], a really faint pink blush and my favourite of light blue eyeshadow framing her eyes, with, if you look close enough, a hint of a green layer closer to her eyes. Then noticeable eye-liner and two long lashes complete the effect. Now, PHOTOS! ........................... Thank you for reading!

I thought the concept art for these dolls was just outstanding.
Thanks for sharing.

Wow, the eyelashes, lol. Seriously, I've never seen the concept art for Ariel before, but this doll is lovely! It's an interesting idea to have a series of Disney Princess dolls based around concept art for the characters. I wonder what the others look like?

Sorry, L, totally forgot to reply to this. Yes, the concept art is amazing. <3 Whoever did it is just awesome as an artist. I think the other merchandise besides the dolls is just as lovely, because that just has the art on it. They've made abosolute truckloads for this line. lol I'm glad you like the doll, Nicole. ^^ Haha, yes, I wasn't too sure about those eyelashes at first [some people even said they'd cut them off if they bought the dolls !], but I find now they suit her really. Not every doll has them, thankfully, since I don't think they'd suit every one. xD I agree, the idea is certainly different. If you're interested in seeing them, here's a link - it's pretty picture heavy.. My personal favourites are Ariel, Cinderella [the silver version mainly] and Tiana. Snow White and Jasmine aren't bad looking either, IMO, if I'm honest, though I'm not keen on the latter's outfit. Link - d-princesses.livejournal.com/1140393.html#cutid1

Looking at them now, the lashes have grown on me since I last posted. Okay, so they're super-long, but I don't see why someone would buy a doll and then mess it up like that. That's just me tho. I really like Tiana and Cinderella best too, and Aurora, Pocahontas, and Jasmine. It's really weird for me to see Snow White like that, since she's like what? Fifteen or something in her movie, but the doll looks like a grown woman (and doesn't quite look like her either). Haha, I don't know. And I can't believe they added Pocahontas and Mulan! It would've been way past cool if Maid Marian and Amelia were included in the lineup, but we all that'd never happen in a billion years. Oh, I do like the concept art, but... is it me, or are the girl's faces all shaped nearly the same?
