History:
Snow White is a princess who grew up as a scullery maid because her stepmother, the Queen, feared that she would become more beautiful than her. When the Queen’s magic mirror declares that Snow White is ‘fairest in the land’ she tells her huntsman to murder the princess and bring her heart back as proof of her death. The Huntsman reluctantly agrees, but in the end cannot care the sweet and innocent youth. He tells her to run away and kills a pig, delivering that heart to the Queen instead.
Lost and frightened, the forest animals guide Snow White to a cottage where she will be safe. Thinking it is the home of untidy children, she cleans the place in hopes that her efforts will persuade the children to let her stay. When the chores are done, she takes a nap across seven beds she finds upstairs. The cottage turns out to be the home of seven dwarfs who work in the mines. After finding their home looking spotless and soup brewing for them, the dwarfs head upstairs to see who had entered their cottage. At first they think Snow White is a monster, but quickly discover she’s a girl. After hearing about the kinds of food she can cook, the dwarfs agree to let her stay; being a scullery maid was an advantage for her because it gave her these basic skills that she might not have acquired if she had remained a proper princess.
Meanwhile, the magic mirror reveals that Snow White is still alive and the fairest in the land. Disguising herself as an old crone by drinking a powerful potion, she poisons an apple and leaves to kill Snow White herself. The spell will put the princess into the sleep of death and can only be broken by love’s first kiss. The Queen is convinced that the dwarfs will think Snow White is dead and end up burying her alive. While the dwarfs are at work, the Crone arrives at the cottage and despite the desperate attempts of the animals to prevent Snow White from eating the apple, the unsuspecting princess lets the old woman in. With no one else to interfere the Crone tells Snow White that the apple is a “wishing” apple and will make all her dreams come true. Snow White falls for the lie and collapses to the floor after one bite. The Queen leaves triumphant, but the dwarfs, whom the animals called to help, catch her escaping and pursue her. The fleeing woman ends up trapped at the edge of a cliff and tries to push a boulder on to the seven men, but a lightning bolt strikes the cliff, splitting the outcropping the Queen’s standing on and sending her tumbling to her death.
The dwarfs return to the cottage to find Snow White, but find her to beautiful to be buried. They put her in a glass coffin and keep watch over her. Rumours spread throughout the land about the girl’s story and the Prince she met back when she was still living at the castle finds her and kisses her goodbye. This kiss breaks the Queen’s spell and Snow White awakens. The story ends with her bidding farewell to the dwarfs and riding off with the Prince.
