Name: Princess Aurora (true name); Briar Rose (in hiding). It’s extremely likely that your character(s) does not know that she’s a princess in hiding.
Age: 15 (before the film).
Species: Blessed human.
Gender: Female.
Nationality: English.
Alignment: Good.
Attire: A peasant dress.
Abilities: Fairy-bestowed gifts: The Gifts of Beauty, Song, and… Being Awaken From a Curse via True Love’s First Kiss. Thank you very much, Maleficent.
Accessories: A scarf and a basket.
Constant Companion: She has animal friends. If that’s not Disney I don’t know what is.
Mortal Enemy: Maleficent. However, Rose has no idea who Maleficent is, or why she should fear her.
Character Information: King Stefan and his fair Queen longed for a child. One day, fortunately, their wish was granted, and they named the daughter Aurora, after the dawn, for she filled their lives with sunshine.
A holiday was declared, and citizens both great and small were able to pay homage to the baby. So far, so good. Unfortunately, Maleficent, the evil fairy that plagues Stefan’s kingdom, did not receive an invitation and crashed the celebration, just as Merryweather was about to bestow her gift on Aurora (Flora and Fauna had already bestowed theirs). Maleficent bestows her own “gift” on the Princess:
Maleficent vanished after that, laughing all the while. Despite burning every spinning wheel in the kingdom, Flora, Fauna and Merryweather (the three good fairies) did not feel that Aurora was safe. And so they hatched a plan: hide with Aurora as peasants deep in the forest, and not returning to the kingdom until her sixteenth birthday. Though King Stefan and his Queen protested at first, they soon realized that this was for Aurora’s best, and with sadness let her go.
And so Flora, Fauna and Merryweather took the infant and found a woodcutter’s cottage in the forest. They successfully evaded Maleficent for nearly sixteen years, much to the fairy’s distress. However, while picking berries Briar Rose (Aurora’s peasant name) has stumbled into the open, and this is where she’s introduced to the characters in Fantasmic Kingdom.
Voice Actress: Mary Costa.
Though she didn’t have much to say in “Sleeping Beauty” (1959), her on-screen scenes were memorable... especially her physical appearance.

“The princess shall indeed grow in grace and beauty. Beloved by all who know her. But… before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday, she shall prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die!”
