It was snowing outside the good-sized home. In her room on the second floor sat Alice, curled up in an armchair. Her legs and feet were blanketed by her skirt, and in her hands was a large ball of green yarn.
Wide-eyed Dinah, who sat on Alice's lap and was fascinated by the yarn, occasionally batted at it. Ultimately, she dislodged the ball of yarn, and it tumbled to the floor, unraveling as it rolled.
Alice looked to Dinah with feigned annoyance, and quickly brought the cat to her face. "You are a wicked thing, Dinah! You ought to have better manners. You ought to!"
When Dinah was visibly guilty, Alice giggled and kissed her pet on the forehead. "Oh, Dinah. I couldn't possibly stay mad at you."

Alice's older sister Edith walked into the room with a history book in one hand.
"Alice," said Edith, "it's time for your history lesson."
It was a daily routine for Edith to sit down with Alice and tutor her. The only problem was that she could rarely keep her interested in the lesson. However, since it was a snow day and Alice was confined to indoors, Edith was hopeful that Alice would not be as reluctant to listen to her lesson.

Fortunately for Edith, her hope was realized. Because it was a snowy day outside, and therefore Alice had less desire to play or be distracted, the little girl looked to her much older sister, smiled, and stood.
"It is?" she asked, mostly to herself. "Well, then, I suppose we should begin."
Although the sisters were sometimes at odds (they contrasted in several ways), Alice was still fond of Edith, as all good siblings should be.
Alice turned, picked up Dinah from the chair and faced her sister again.

Edith and Alice went downstairs and sat down in comfy chairs in the living room. Edith opened her book and proceeded to read the chapter on William the Conqueror's conquest of England. After about an hour of lecturing, Edith closed the book.
"That will be all for today," said Edith.
Edith was quite pleased to see that Alice had not fallen asleep or daydreamed during the lecture.
"She's finally starting to grow up," thought Edith with a smile on her face.

Alice seemed relieved that her tutoring was over, but nevertheless she expressed gratitude. "Thank you, Edith," she said with a pretty smile.
Dinah remained on the floor, where she stayed during the session. She was lazy, not even bothering to stand after Alice was free.
The younger sibling stood and happily trotted to the large looking-glass in the room, with her blond, pair-shaped hair bouncing with each step. She looked into the mirror to see if the ribbon in her hair was symmetrical, but gasped lightly when the mirror suddenly flashed. For a brief second, Alice saw... Wonderland?
In an instant, Wonderland vanished from the mirror. Uncle Remus was right; ever since Alice became the next keeper of Wonderland, she couldn't even escape the place. Without thinking twice, Alice reached into the mirror, and slipped into it. The mirror rippled like water, but quickly stabilized.
Dinah witnessed Alice's departure. She sprang up and purred loudly towards the mirror, loud enough to catch Edith's attention.

Edith, having heard Dinah's distressed calls, walked into the room.
"What's the matter, Dinah?" she asked.
Dinah meowed excitedly and directed Edith's attention to the mirror. Edith walked up to the mirror, and, for a split second, she saw what appeared to be another world. When she reached out and touched the mirror, her hand passed through the glass. Shocked by the anomaly, Edith jerked her arm back quickly.
"What on earth?!" she thought to herself. "How is this possible?!"
The mirror flashed again for a brief period, and Edith caught a glimpse of Alice floating down a hole, her dress puffed up like a parachute.
Having finally mustered enough courage, Edith slipped into the mirror and found herself tumbling down the hole she had previously seen in the mirror. She let out a shriek as she fell, but within a few seconds, her dress puffed up like Alice's did.
"Don't worry, Edith," she said to herself. "It's just your imagination running wild."
After what seemed like hours, she finally reached the bottom of the hole and caught a glimpse of Alice running down the nearby hallway.
"Wait, Alice!" Edith shouted. "Come back!"

Because she has experienced this all before, Alice was far less bewildered than her older sibling. The youngest Liddell raced down the corridor, but she instantly stopped in her tracks when she heard her name being called. The sudden stop nearly resulted in Alice toppling over, but she regained her stance.
She turned her head to face where she just came from and called for her sister. "Oh, Edith? Are you there?" She brought her hands to her mouth to amplify her dainty holler.
Back at the Liddell residence, Dinah remained away from the looking-glass. She stared at it with intensity, refusing to leave.

It was Edith. Alice stepped closer until she could plainly see her older sibling. She looked up to the taller Liddell with a grin of slight mischief.
"Do you remember Wonderland?" Alice asked. "And how you didn't believe me? It was nonsense, you said."
She clasped her hands together and retained her smile.

Edith thought back to that particular summer day when she was teaching Alice near the lake. Alice had fallen asleep as usual, but when she woke up, she began babbling about such things as a "White Rabbit" and "Wonderland." Edith also remembered how she dismissed Alice's words as nonsense. A smile crossed Edith's face.
"Now I see," she said. "This is Wonderland, isn't it? Where do we go from here?"

"Yes, Edith," Alice politely replied. "This is Wonderland. I don't suppose you believe me now?"
She giggled lightly at her own joke, which was meant to be playful and not at all insulting. She finally answered her older sibling's question by saying, "Well, the looking-glass brought us here. I was certain it would have taken us to the wood. That is what we saw, you know."
She turned and pointed to the end of the corridor, where she was before she returned to Edith. "This leads to the Doorknob, but I don't think he will be very helpful. He never was." That's when Alice realized that the corridor was fraught with doors, doors she had never even considered opening...

Edith stood in thought for a moment. For all she knew, one of the doors could lead to certain death.
"There's only one way to find out," said Edith, mustering all the courage she needed to cope with her predicament.
Edith walked up to a fancily decorated green door. Slowly, she turned the knob and opened the door. What she saw on the other side was a dense forest.

Alice brought her hands up near her lips in astonishment. This, of course, defied all logic and physics. There shouldn't be a dense forest beyond this door; it's simply nonsensical. Of course, this was Wonderland, so by now Alice should have been used to such nonsense.
Alice quickly convinced herself to not be so surprised. She covered her mouth to stifle a giggle before returning her palms to her abdomen. "Everything here is so confusing, Edith, but perhaps I will be of some assistance." She smiled up to her older sibling. If there was one thing Edith and Alice shared, it was the blue eyes. "Are you curious?"

Alice continued smiling as she nodded to Edith. "Very well!" Alice looked ahead to the serene forest that stood before them, and she led her older sibling through Wonderland's outdoors. Wonderland's flora, especially the trees, were all scenic and beautiful, but it didn't require a close examination to see that they were otherwordly from the sensible world. None of the trees were straight; they all had unique curves and waves, and there were no straight lines to be found. Alice led Edith through he forest, past tree by tree. It wasn't long before Alice recognized this particular area; this was where she had met Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum. And just beyond the thicket was the White Rabbit's house. Alice immediately recognized the white-and-pink house with thatching. "Look, Edith!" She exclaimed while pointing to the cute structure that was erected before them. "That is Mr. Rabbit's home! I wonder if he's inside?" She cocked her head as she stared at the house, as if she tried to look inside from her distance.

"Let's take a closer look to see if there's anyone home," said Edith.
The Liddell sisters passed through the fence surrounding the White Rabbit's house and approached the door. Edith knocked twice on the door and waited for a response. There was no answer. Edith then tried to turn the doorknob and was quite surprised to see that the door was unlocked.
"That's strange," Edith said. "Why would he leave his house unlocked?"

Alice had closely followed her older sibling. As they approached the house's front door, the younger Liddell recalled an event that took place in this structure. Alice had eaten a cookie and swelled into an enormous size, and as a result she became stuck in the White Rabbit's house. At the time, the gargantuan Alice was mistaken for a monster by the White Rabbit and his friends, and a silly bird named Dodo proposed that they set fire to the house while Alice was still inside. Fortunately, Alice managed to shrink and escape before she could meet such a demise.
Actually, the house obviously did not catch on fire after all. After all, the home was still erected, and by the looks of it, the White Rabbit had repaired everything that Alice inadvertently broke. She was thankful of this, and she was curious if the White Rabbit was home at all. Maybe Mary Ann, the White Rabbit's mysterious housemaid, was inside?
Alice watched Edith open the door. The younger sister raised her eyebrows in light surprise, but she wasn't as shocked as Edith. "Do you suppose he is inside?" she asked. "Perhaps we should look and be certain." This was merely a suggestion, and Alice shrugged her shoulders lightly while looking at her older sister's delicate face.

Edith slowly turned the doorknob and walked inside. Inside, the house was filled with furniture adorned with rabbit-shaped decorations, but it appeared to be devoid of any activity.
"Hello?" called Edith. "Is anyone there?"
Edith's call was met with absolute silence.
"Let's split up," said Edith, turning to her younger sister. "I'll look upstairs and you can look around the rooms downstairs."

Alice stepped into the home. She and her sister had to stoop their heads as they entered because the doorway was much too small for a human to comfortably pass through, even for Alice's height. As the Liddell sisters entered, Alice looked around the house's interiors. It was just as she remembered it. There were some furniture replacements, certainly, but for the most part it was still the same house she inadvertently tarnished earlier.
Alice looked up to her older sister when she spoke, and the younger sibling nodded. "Yes, Edith." Leaving the stairs for Edith, Alice began to search the first floor. She casually checked through the rooms, knocking each door before opening and entering. "Hello?" she would usually ask before entering the first floor's rooms. "Mr. Rabbit? Are you home?"
It was unfortunate that Alice forgot to mention one little thing to Edith. Specifically, something about Wonderland's foodstuff and their side effects to humans from realm of normalcy and sense...

Edith stepped into what she assumed to be the White Rabbit's bedroom, judging by the large bed at the end of the room opposite the door. There was a large chest situated next to the mirror, as well as a drawer with a box of candy placed on top of it. Since it had been some time since she last ate, Edith decided to eat a piece of candy to tie her over until her next meal.
Shortly after consuming the candy, Edith noticed that the interior of the house seemed to be getting smaller. However, she soon realized that she in fact was growing larger. As she increased in size, she desperately tried to keep herself from breaking the walls of the house. Eventually, her arms were sticking out of both upstairs windows, and her legs were sticking out of the door and one side of the house. Suddenly, Edith remembered that Alice had been downstairs. A terrible thought crossed her mind: what if she had accidently injured or crushed her younger sibling?
"Where are you, Alice?!" shouted Edith. "Are you alright?!"

Alice was downstairs when Edith grew rapidly. Just before her older sibling ate the cookie, Alice was finished checking the last room. That was when Alice remembered how she swelled in the house before: she ate a cookie. A cookie from upstairs! She gasped as soon as she realized that Edith could have found those cookies.
"Oh!" she exclaimed. She turned and ran for the stairs as fast as she could. "Edith!" she loudly called as she ran. "Don't eat the--oh, no!" She screamed as she saw a large, shoe-clad foot at the top of the stairs. Alas, she was too late! As soon as she saw the underside of her now literally big sister's shoe, Alice turned, opened the door and ran outside with great speed. She successfully evaded the shoe, but she had to jump out of the way to avoid being struck. She landed on her front, and when she heard the crashing noise cease, she stood and hurried to the front of the house to get a better look. She saw her sister's arms and legs, and clothing wedged between the house's openings. Edith's large face was protected by large window blinders.
Alice couldn't stop smiling. She knew she should have been worried, but seeing her sister in this situation was admittedly humorous. Did Alice herself look this funny when this happened to her? The young Liddell began to giggle, and she covered her mouth with her right hand, trying in vain to stop laughing. "I--hehe! I am all right, Edith!" she called out between giggles. "Are--hehe--are you all right?" By now she covered her mouth with both of her hands. Her cheeks were lightly turning red from her giggles, and she hoped this natural laughter wouldn't offend her swollen sibling.

"Thank goodness you're alright!" said Edith with a sigh of relief.
Luckily for Alice, Edith did not hear her younger sibling's giggling at her expense. Edith struggled to break out of the house, but to no avail. The foundation of the house was too firmly constructed, and there was very little room for the now-gargantuan Edith to move. Edith knew she had to return to her normal size and get out of the house before the White Rabbit returned or before anyone else noticed. It was uncomfotable enough being incredibly large and barely able to move inside the house, and she did not want to bare the humiliation of becoming the center of unwanted attention in Wonderland.
"Alice!" shouted Edith. "How do I get out of here?"

Watching Edith trying to free herself from the confines of the household did not help Alice's giggling fit, but the younger sister managed to stop when she heard Edith's tone. After being asked about how to free her trapped sibling, Alice rapidly twiddled her fingers in thought and looked around.
"Let's see, how did I--oh, yes!" She remembered as soon as her eyes fell on the garden. She hurried to the garden, which mostly consisted of planted carrots, and she looked up to her sister's ginormous arm. The smaller Liddell raised her voice so she would be audible to Edith.
"Here!" Alice called. "You must eat something, so try a carrot!" Alice looked down to the carrots, and noticed that they were all actually fairly large, even judging by their stems. This was good, because it probably gave Edith a good chance of being able to grab one and devour it.
Alice looked back up to her sister's large, sleeved arm. There wasn't really a state of a panic, because there was no one around to threaten house fires, but nevertheless Alice was concerned, and now felt guilty for giggling earlier. She furrowed her eyebrows as she recalled just how embarrassing and uncomfortable the situation was for her...

Following her younger sister's advice, Edith uprooted one of the carrots from the garden and ate it. In an instant, she shrank down to the size of a mouse. She carefully jumped down each of thesteps on the stairs and made her way towards the front door. Although the shrinking process had made it easier for Edith to move around more freely once again, it had also made the world a much bigger place for her. Edith grumbled over her new predicament and pondered over scolding her younger sister for not warning her about the side effects of the carrot. Upon exiting the house, she saw Alice running towards her.
"I'm right here, Alice!" Edith shouted as loud as she could. "Please don't step on me!"

Indeed, Alice forgot to warn Edith about eating too much of the carrot. She hurried around the house to approach the front door, and that's where she saw Edith. Alice's sister stood on a step that led up to the front door.
"Edith!" Alice exclaimed. She very carefully approached the tiny sibling and lowered herself to her knees, so her face could be closer to the diminutive Edith.
"I'm sorry," Alice apologized for the whole event. "I ought to have warned you; the food here is awfully powerful. How are you feeling?" Her eyebrows furrowed with mild concern.

Alice gently laid the back of her hand on the stone, just before Edith. It was obvious that Alice was beckoning her sibling to step on the palm.
"You need to eat something," Alice replied, but she immediately felt a sense of déjà vu. Her face indicated this feeling, and she couldn't help but smile embarrassingly. "Oh... but you must eat a small portion," she added. The episode with the house was clear evidence of this.
After a short moment, Alice studied her sibling, and she couldn't help but find some humour in this. "Well!" she exclaimed in realization. "I suppose now I'm your taller sister!" She closed her mouth to stifle a giggle.

Edith did not respond, but rather gave her younger sister an unamused look. Nevertheless, she willingly climbed onto Alice's hand. As she scouted the surrounding area from Alice's palm, Edith caught sight of a mushroom near a patch of flowers.
"Is that mushroom fit to eat?" asked Edith. "If so, perhaps it could restore me to my original size?"

Edith's unamused expression only triggered more giggling from Alice, but she soon regained control of herself and waited for her big sister (by age; not currently by height) to climb aboard her palm. The feeling of the tiny Edith's footsteps on her palm was lightly ticklish to Alice; it felt like holding a scurrying caterpillar. But Alice refused to flinch; now the was holding Edith, she had to be absolutely careful.
Alice looked to the patch of flowers that caught Edith's attention, and the mushroom surrounded by flowers and grass. Alice nodded down to her sibling. "It should. Come, let's go there!"
That was easier said than done; because Alice was paying her full, undivided attention to Edith's well-being, the youngest Liddell sibling took her time to rise from her knees and walk to the patch of flowers. This task must have taken minutes, but Alice wanted to be absolutely careful not to drop her sibling.
But at last, Alice arrived to the flowers and, by extension, the mushroom. Just as careful as she was before, she ever-so-gently lowered herself to her knees and lowered the back of her hands to the ground, so Edith could slide off.
"Here we are," Alice said reassuringly. But then she smiled a mischievous grin. "But don't you want to stay like this forever? After all, I'm quite tired of being tinier than you!"

By this time, Edith was beginning to tire of Alice’s sarcastic remarks. Normally, she would have ignored such comments, but after enduring so many unsettling and humiliating predicaments, she could not tolerate her younger sibling’s making light of her situation. After stepping off of Alice’s hand, Edith started to walk through the flower bed towards the mushroom.
“Excuse me?” a haughty feminine voice asked. “What are you doing here?”
Edith immediately stopped and looked around, but she could not determine where the voice was coming from.
“Who is there?” Edith asked nervously. “Show yourself!”
"Turn around," said the voice.
Following the voice's command, Edith slowly turned around to see a Snap-dragon. The Snap-dragon leaned closer to get a better look at Edith.
"What a peculiar-looking specimen you are," said the Snap-dragon in a somewhat amused tone.
Soon all of the flowers in the garden were moving and talking amongst themselves about their new visitor. Edith could not believe her eyes; she was surrounded by a group of talking flowers!
“But that’s nonsense!” said Edith. “Everyone knows that flowers can’t talk!”
“But of course we can talk,” said the Rose in a gentle tone.
"She reminds me of that yellow-topped weed who once wondered into our bed," said one of the violets.
“Is that so?” asked the Snap-dragon in a rather angry tone. “I thought she seemed familiar to me.”
"Maybe she is a weed as well!" exclaimed one of the lilies.
“Wait!” said the Rose. “Perhaps we should not judge her too quickly!”
Worried about being attacked by the flowers, Edith began to dash towards the mushroom. Unfortunately, one of the daisies tripped her before she could make it very far. The Marguerite grabbed Edith by her legs and held her upside down, causing Edith's dress to droop down, exposing her white pantalettes.
"She even has the same type of stem as that weed!" said the Marguerite, giggling as she held poor Edith. "That confirms our suspicions!"
The indignity was too great for Edith. Falling down a hole and changing sizes was shocking enough for the elder Liddell, but to be harassed by a group of talking flowers and to have her pantalettes completely exposed was far more than she could stand.
"Alice!" Edith shouted, her face turning red from embarrassment. "Help me!"
