Robin the Frog was not a frog at all, though he looked very much like one. His small green body, with small webbed hands and feet, and being green all over would have convinced anyone that he was an amphibian, but really he was a knight from a far away kingdom. A long time ago, Robin had been out in the forest where he came upon an ogre, an ugly, smelly thing. The ogre turned out to be the pet of an evil witch who turned him into a frog and the only way he could return to his human form was if he befriended a princess and received a kiss from her! Unfortunately Robin has not met any princesses and as he wandered through the forest that he thought the witch had come from, he was certain that he would find no princesses here either.
The little frog prince struggled to climb up on to a log (hopping was too weird for him) and stopped to catch his breath; he had been walking for a long time and needed to take a rest. His stomach rumbled hungrily and Robin placed a webbed hand over it.
“I’ll never find a way out of here,” he whined and then shook his head. “This attitude isn’t very princely either.” Robin jumped off the log and resumed his course. If he wanted to find a safe place to stay before dark, he’d have to keep going.

The brave frog may have been in luck; in the distance, a melodious soprano voice sang. This voice, many would initially assume, was too beautiful to be real, let alone human. Some would guess that such a voice came from a nymph, or a wood sprite.
Wherever it came from, it was distant, but not far off. It could be tracked and found, if one searched persistently. If Robin were to search, his job would have been made easier by some of the forest's animals; squirrels, birds and at least two rabbits passed Robin as they eagerly followed the music.

Robin may have been small, but his hearing was just fine. The frog followed in line with the other creatures of the forest that travelled towards the enchanting sound. The melody led them towards a pretty maiden who seemed to also be transfixed by her voice; she looked like she hadn’t a care in the world and was just happy to be singing. The curious animals gathered around her- Robin included.

The maiden, who was exceptionally beautiful, did project happiness to her audience of woodland creatures. However, under her beautiful visage lied a lonely heart. She had told her more frequent animal friends of her emptiness within, but Robin and and the girl of course didn't know each other.
The beautiful maiden, aged fifteen, finished her operatic song with a gracious twirl. Her long, blond hair and her skirt twirled vividly, but in a flash she had finished, and with a single hand she curtsied to her audience. The animals noisily applauded, and the girl's lips smiled.
"Thank you," she softly said. "I am happy to have entertained you."
She didn't expect a response in English, because none of the animals that surrounded her could speak.
Or so she thought.

Admist the thumping of paws, and stomping of hooves, and appreciative chirping of the birds, Robin brought his two webbed hands together, clapping passionately.
’Wasn’t she lovely?’ said one rabbit to another in a hyper tone.
’Every time I hear her, her singing seems to have improved.’ All the sounds in this sentence were elongated and Robin glanced down to find the words came from snail.
’I agree!’ added an eager squirrel. ’Which I didn’t think was possible, because she was so magnificent before! And yet… here she is! More enchanting than the last time.’
“I’ve never heard anything so beautiful before,” Robin told the animals around him. A few of the animals nodded and chattered back to him, but the frog was the only voice in the crowd who could be understood by humans.

Briar Rose curtsied again, but she jerked and gasped when, out of nowhere, an English-speaking voice broke through the animals' stirrings.
She didn't recognize the voice, nor did she see to whom it belonged. Rose looked around cautiously and softly called out, "Who... who said that? Is anyone there?" She hoped it was not that frightful man with the hook again.... but it didn't sound like him; the voice she just heard was far too soft and gentle to be that roguish pirate.

<What frightful man with a Hook?>
Robin seemed surprised when the girl asked if anyone was around- there was a giant circle of animals surrounding her! What a silly question.
"Well of course there is," Robin said in a slightly puzzled tone. The frog quickly felt ashamed however, because it suddenly dawned on him that the maiden might not be able to see! He hopped forward, breaking his link in the circle. "There are a whole bunch of animals around you, but don't worry. I don't think any of them are dangerous, Miss." He paused for a moment before adding, "You have a lovely singing voice."

(OOC: lol! Gee, now that you ask me I can't remember. ) The girl spun her head in time to see the frog leap closer to her. The force of her head turning made her hair swing in the air and splash over the side of her face, before dropping to idleness. The girl stared at the talking amphibian with her wide purple eyes. The owl could only ask, 'Who?' This delicate creature, however, could speak fluent English. How novel! "Oh... oh! I'm sorry, I... I didn't see you speak." The girl decided to not question this ability to talk, because she feared asking would offend the frog. She recognized the compliment, and she giggled lightly as a hint of redness filled her cheeks. She lowered herself to the ground at ease so her attractive face could be closer to all of the animals, resting on her knees and her hands on her shins. "Thank you," she said to the frog while retaining her smile. "That is very kind of you." She kept her smile, but she tilted her head slightly. "I don't believe we've met. Have we?" Because of the attention given to the frog, the other animals tended to stare at him.

It was easy enough to ignore the other animals when the young lady was giving him her full attention.
“Oh, no!” Robin answered, wide eyed and shook his head. “I think I’ve been in this forest once before, but I know we haven’t met.” The frog prince added shyly, “I would remember you if we had. Why are you here all by yourself? Isn’t it dangerous?”
Robin found it odd that a sweet, young girl like her would risk wandering a forest all alone. For a split second it flashed in his mind that this might be Taminella, the witch who turned him into a frog. Robin took a cautious hop back, just in case.

The peasant girl smiled and shook her head. "No, I am always safe. My aunts are strict about where I go, and how far I go." Her smiled faded when she reminisced. "But there was..." She put the event with the hooked man and others out of her mind, and she shook her head, forcing herself to smile again. "Never mind."
She placed a hand to her chest as she addressed herself. "My name is Briar Rose. What's yours?" If this girl was indeed an antagonist in disguise, it was the best disguise in the world; this delicate creature really couldn't hurt a fly, and her goodwill was rarely seen in society.

The green prince’s suspicions began to fade away as the sweet youth continued to talk. Surely Taminella would have struck by now if the maiden was in fact her, but that old witch probably didn’t have the magic to pull off that natural beauty and tender charm. As Robin’s suspicions melted away, he felt comfortable enough to introduce himself.
“I’m Robin.” The little frog inhaled and gently sang, “They call me, Sir Robin the Brave. And history one day will rave; I’m valiant and daring, and noble and caring, courageous and gallant, a mountain of talent- no wonder folks curtsey and wave; I’m Robin. Sir Robin. The Brave.” His song had finished, but Robin went on. “You see, Briar Rose, I’m not really a frog at all, but a prince!” A sad look fell upon his face and he hung his head. “A nasty witch put a spell on me.”

Briar Rose smiled warmly and giggled lightly when Robin sang his glorified song. At first the teenage girl thought that the frog was a natural jester, but happiness escaped her eyes and lips. Her delicate eyebrows furrowed, and she expressed pure sympathy.
"Ohhh, you are a cursed prince?" She bit her lip and she brought her face even closer to Robin. "I am terribly sorry, Sir Robin! Who could have done such a horrible thing?" Rose was indisputably upset, saddened and enraged simultaneously. She felt terrible for her new friend, and his alleged curse. She kept herself calm, though, and gave her undivided attention to Robin. The animals that surrounded them noisily 'discussed' to themselves about the cursed monarch that was present.

Before this, it had never been documented that frogs could blush, but the faintest hue of pink tinted Robin's cheeks when Briar Rose brought her face even closer.
'Her name is Taminella,' he continued on. 'And you should all be very wary of her.' The frog looked around and nodded to all the forest friends. 'She's large and purple and has- and has an ogre!' His eyes grew as large as saucers at the last word and he hopped forward and on to a tree stump.
'But that's not all! The only way to break the spell is for me to befriend a princess and have her invite me to live with her in her palace and the get a kiss from her!' Robin shook his head and glanced down at his little green self.
'You can imagine how often that's happened.'

Even more saddened, Briar Rose moaned lightly. "Ohhhh, I'm so sorry, Robin! Sir Robin! That is terrible!"
She placed her hands together and cupped them, and rested the back of them on the ground before Robin. She was inviting him to hop on her hands. "How could anyone be so... so heartless?" her delicate voice said.

With one small hop, the frog landed in Briar Rose's hands. He swallowed noisily, having never been this close to a woman since his days as a prince. At least... at that he could remember; his human days were kind of fuzzy in his head- all he could remember was Taminella and the Ogre.
"I don't know," he said sadly. "But I sure feel bad for someone who would have to stoop that low. Maybe she doesn't have any friends, just that ogre." Robin paused a moment and then shyly looked up into her eyes and asked,
"Briar Rose? Do you know any princesses?"

Maybe, thought Briar Rose, but that does not justify cursing others!
When Robin hopped onto her hands, she lifted him up to meet her face, with the greatest of ease. Now looking closely to the frog, Rose nervously bit her lip and shook her head. "I'm so sorry, Robin, but I don't know of any princesses."
That statement, Rose would later find, were highly ironic.
"I have never left this forest. But..." She smiled warmly, her cheeks lightly turning red. "If I was a princess, I would kiss you." Her purple eyes stared directly into Robin's own hues.
The animals surrounding the two couldn't help but feel touched by this scene.

Robin was so stunned to learn she had never left the woods before that the shock completely overrode the disappointment he was feeling when she admitted to having no connections with royalty.
“You haven’t?” the frog prince exclaimed. “But why? The world is such a beautiful place. Why do you want to stay in here?”
Briar Rose’s next words were even more startling than the first and Robin’s mouth went completely dry. For a moment that felt like an eternity to the small creature, the world seemed to spin before him and Briar Rose faded in and out as if he were waking up from a most lovely dream. She’d k-k- kiss him? Gradually the forest and the girl before him came into focus and Robin blinked.
“Well, thank you, that’s very kind of you. I couldn’t accept your kiss, however. I’d have to befriend you first.” A happy smile had settled on to his face as he lightly teased her about offering a kiss before becoming friends.

Briar Rose would have giggled at Robin's stunned reaction, but now it was her turn to feel tongue-tied. "I..." She stared at him for a moment before asking him a question, with a very fragile, vulnerable face. "Would you... like to be my friend?"
That question was probably sad, because at this point it was strongly hinted that this young woman was very lonely. Her explanation that followed only fueled this notion further. "I would... I would like to see the world, but..." She looked away, as if she was too embarrassed to say her reason to Robin's face. "My aunts won't let me. They don't want me to leave this forest." She looked to him, her eyes noticeably misty. "I shouldn't be talking to you, Sir Robin."
After another moment, she forced herself to smile and giggle. "But I am happy to disobey Aunt Flora, Aunt Fauna and Aunt Merryweather, if only to meet you." Still holding Robin close to her, her smile became genuine again when she asked, "Would you... would you like me to sing for you? I love to sing. It is my favorite thing to do, and if it will make you feel better, I would love to comfort you, Sir Robin."
The surrounding animals, who kept distant from the couple, reacted appropriately during Rose's explanation. They had been the closest she ever had to friends, and they heard this story several times already, but they still felt sad for Briar Rose's loneliness.

What was a frog to do when a pretty girl was sad? The naturally soft hearted creature wished he could do something to make her feel better, but all he could think of was to reach out and pat the side of her wrist, hoping the gesture would be well received. He had heard tales of girls getting upset and grossed out if a frog ever came close to touching them, but he was fairly certain Briar Rose was not that kind of girl, especially since she invited him on to her hands in the first place. Robin listened patiently to all that was said and even flashed her an amused smile when she mentioned disobeying her aunts. Hadn’t everybody refused to listen to their guardians at one point or another?
“Well first of all, Briar Rose, I would be honoured to be your friend. You’re a very nice young lady and maybe your aunts are afraid for you because they’re scared too! I’ve been to a lot of different places and maybe we all could go out of the forest together one day! That way your aunts will know you are safe because they are with you and they’ll discover that life outside of the woods isn’t so bad either. Oh, and yes, please. It would be a treat to hear you sing again.” The frog shifted in her palms, getting more comfortable for the anticipated show.

Robin's prediction was correct; Briar Rose didn't flinch when her wrist was patted by the frog's cold hand. In fact, this only rendered Rose's smile warmer. She also listened intently to the frog, and she thought that maybe Robin was right; maybe her aunts were afraid of similarly evil witches, or even the same evil witch that cursed poor Robin! If that was the case, then Briar Rose would understand why she was kept from the outside world. Still, she couldn't help but long to view the world, even if just for once.
But her thoughts were broken when Robin accepted her offer. Her smile widened which resulted with her lips parting and her eyes crinkling. "Yes, Sir Robin." She very carefully rested the back of her hands to the ground so Robin could hop off, and she stood up and stepped back to give audience room. The animals that accompanied Briar Rose before Robin entered the scene still remained , and they surrounded the frog, serving as Rose's audience.
Without much hesitation, Briar Rose started a song, and it was every bit as ethereal as before. Her voice was almost inhuman, some would probably think; it was as if a greater power bestowed this young woman with a gift of music. (This was actually not too far from the truth.) Her song, a tune she composed herself, had pleasant, lighthearted lyrics, but it was really her sweeping melody and her operatic, soprano voice that charmed the lovers of music who listened to the peasant girl.
The song's lyrics addressed inner feelings, but it seemed to have a subtle reference to Sir Robin. This was further evidenced when Briar Rose winked to the frog when she sang the aforementioned lyrics. The song itself was under three minutes, but some of the animals felt it was too brief and wished it to be longer.
After the tune, the animals again made noises as their way to applaud the beautiful singer. Briar Rose, smiling down to her animal companions (but mostly to Robin), grabbed the hem of her skirt and curtsied in a femininely dignified manner.

<Happy end of the school year, Joe!>
The tiny frog had been so focused on Briar Rose he had practically forgotten that the other animals were still there! He welcomed their company as they circled him by not rudely moving away so that he could have his own (somewhat) private show. One thing was certain when Briar Rose’s melodic voice graced the forest once again; if Robin wore socks, they’d be knocked right off. Yes, the world was definitely missing out on this enchanting songstress. The frog smiled right at her when she winked at him and when the song was completed there was a moment of stunned silence as if they could not believe it was really over. Then the forest dwellers erupted into applause and Robin himself even hopped a few times to show his appreciation.
“I think you were better than your last song!” admitted Robin, which was a true compliment because he was so enamoured with the previous one already. “I sure wish you could leave the forest, Briar Rose. On my way to here, I passed a place that was holding auditions for new talent! I bet you’d get in for sure.”

Briar Rose's cheeks lightly blushed at the very kind and sweet compliments. "Thank you," she sincerely addressed Robin and the other animals.
After the song, the young maiden once again descended to the ground, so she could once again be closer to Robin and the other animals who still cared to watch and listen. She greatly appreciated Robin's comments, but she couldn't help but feel a trifle embarrassed because she didn't know what auditions were. She assumed the word 'auditions' in this context was a very flattering comment, but nevertheless he felt implied to ask. "Thank you, Sir Robin, but what are auditions?"
Despite feeling sheepish, she kept her smile.

“Auditions? Oh, uh…” Robin had never really thought about explaining auditions to someone before. Briar Rose must be missing out on a lot seeing as she had been in this forest for the last- he scanned her up and down- fifteen or so years.
“Auditions are when somebody goes and performs in front of another person, or a group of people. The person or people then decide if the one auditioning has that special talent that they are looking to use in some sort of way. If there was an audition for a concert, you would go and sing for someone and then they would decide if they thought you were good enough to be in their concert or not. This audition is open to all kinds of talent, though. There’s singing and dancing and telling jokes…” The frog smiled at her. “I think you'd be swell.”

"Ohhh," Briar Rose vocalized when she understood what Robin had meant. "I understand..." She quickly deduced that it was a compliment, and she smiled warmly again, feeling flattered. "Thank you, Sir Robin," she said as her cheeks remained pink. "I'm so happy you enjoy my singing that much!"
She felt very comfortable with the frog now. She really believed that she was making a new friend with the noble amphibian, a friend. She never dreamed she would actually make one that could speak, and yet here was Sir Robin, a charming frog with a friendly demeanor. The fact that he was a frog did not disgust her in the least--if anything, he was adorable.
She continued to smile to Robin, and after a moment of silence she repeated, "Thank you." She followed this with, "I want to help you."

While Briar Rose insisted that she help Robin, the young frog’s face fell and he looked down. “I do appreciate your offer, really I do, but I don’t think you can, Briar Rose. We’d have to find a princess and if you haven’t come across one yet, then I don’t think that there would be any living nearby. Why, if you’ve been here your whole life I’m sure you would have met a princess by now if one existed in these parts.”
Suddenly, Robin’s eyes bulged as they widened in shock and fear. “You haven’t seen Taminella, though have you? That witch I told you about. I came here because this is where I think I first met her.”

Unfortunately for Robin, the smile on Briar Rose's lips faded when her strong desire to help was initially rejected. But thankfully, before her heart could dwell in despair she was asked about the whereabouts of the evil witch that had antagonized Robin. The beautiful maiden shook her head gently, but even such a slight movement of the head made her hair sway gracefully.
"No, I have not," she admitted in a soft, intimidated voice. "But, if she does live here, then I'm certain Aunt Flora, Aunt Fauna and Aunt Merryweather would've met her by now." As if she suddenly felt as though they were being watched, Briar Rose looked around. Caution filled her eyes. "But... I could be wrong..."
She brought a hand to her chest and clenched it into a fist.

“Well- well maybe they have!” exclaimed Robin. “And they haven’t told you to protect you.” It was a bit of a far out theory, but a theory none-the-less. The more he thought about Briar Rose’s aunts, the more he wondered just how much they knew about the world outside the forest. It was a long shot when he posed his next question, but still hope lingered in his ebony eyes.
“Do you think they might know where I could find a princess, Briar Rose? I really don’t mean to keep questioning you about this, but you are the first person I’ve met on my journey and well… I wouldn’t like to remain a frog forever.” He looked down over his green fleshed body. “If I do meet a princess, though, I hope she’s as nice as you are.”

Briar Rose couldn't help it. Robin's last statement greatly humbled her, and it was visible. She blushed once again, and by instinct she placed her right hand on a cheek and rested her other hand on her right elbow, all while smiling with exposed, pearly white teeth. She felt warm. The fact that she responded so strongly to compliments was further evidence that she rarely, if ever, socializes.
"Oh, thank you," Briar Rose said emotionally. "You are so sweet, Sir Robin!" She calmed herself after the compliment and nodded. "We only have to ask, don't we?" She leaned forward and playfully tapped an index finger on the slick surface between the frog's eyes, and she giggled lightly. "I would be honored to help you."
Her purple eyes were fixed on Robin's ebony hues.

Robin visibly blushed when Briar Rose actually touched him, but it certainly did not distract him from his goals. When she offered her aunt's assistance, or at least a visit to them, his heart leaped with joy and he was tempted to hop around in happiness. This would be most unprincely of him of course and so he refrained from doing so.
"Well! Then what are we waiting for? Let's go!" he said, eagerly.

Briar Rose smiled sweetly. She started to get up to her feet, but a realization tugged her face and she lowered herself to speak to Robin once more. She clearly remembered something, and she had to ask the frog a question.
"Sir Robin," she said, "would you prefer me to carry you, or would you rather walk on your own?" She wondered if they would be quicker if she carried him, but chose to ask for his opinion. As soon as she asked, though, she wondered if the question would seem offensive. In which case, she would be highly apologetic.
